Can anyone put these Cories into breeding difficulty, easiest first.
Panda, Sterbai, Bronze, Schwartz's, Julii, Skunk, Pygmy, and Bandit.
Thanks, espicially if you can do it.

Do we get a mars bar if we get it right ? ;) I have bandit cories and so far they havn't spawned, unlike my albinos who spawn regularly. So I'd say bronze would perhaps be the easiest to breed. Sorry I'm not much help.

My bronzes were really easy to breed, without needing too much conditioning. The pandas did take a lot longer, but now spawn every 1-2 evenings. The sterbai I am still waiting on. :D

Haha, sorry im out of Mars Bars, plus I wouldn't know if you got it right until I had spawned them.

Thanks for replys

I'll give it a shot, in order of easiest to hardest.

C. pygmaeus (what you called pygmy)
C. aeneus (what you called bronze, or albino)
C. trilineatus (what you called julii)
C. panda
C. sterbai
C. arcuatus (what you called skunk)
C. matae (what you called bandit)
C. schwartzi

Some of these are hard to order, first two (maybe three) can be jumbled around, but most people would agree they are all fairly easy. Last three, all are a decent challenge and take a little more effort than the first five. Also, if you some chance you did mean the real C. julii it is not as easy as the fish called julii by all the fish stores, not sure where to put it, but maybe just under C. sterbai

Hope that helps and I would love to see any corrections to my list, other than jumbling the first three.

By the way, all have spawned in captivity.

Chris

I have only spawned pandas, paleatus and sterbai. All three were easy to get the eggs from. However, raising the sterbais proved to be the greatest challenge, It took me a few tries to get any of the fry past 30 days.

What were your tank conditions for the sterbai? How did you condition the sterbai for spawning? Where did they lay their eggs? How were you able to finally raise fry? Sorry for all the questions, but my sterbai seem to be getting into the mood when our pandas spawn, but they still haven't gone all the way and haven't spawned for mommy

Thanks, Carmen :D

My C.Panda horde spawned all the time with no conditioning, but the fry, for me, were hard to keep alive.

C. panda usually take a very simple spawning trigger, a water change with cooler water. If you think panda are easy try one of the easy ones. C. pygmaeus wll spawn if you think about it hard enough, C. aeneus is about as easy but sometimes you have to feed them to get them to spawn. Of course that is for tank raised aeneus, pygmaeus, trilineatus and panda. Sometimes wild caught take a little more conditioning, or maybe it's just waiting.

Thank you everyone for the replies! :good: My 18" is almost cycled. So when its done I shall then introduce a few cories, just need to decide which ones by looking through this post again and again and other posts.

I used a mix of frozen blood worms and live red worms. The latter seemed to be the trigger. They put the eggs averywhere- on the glass, on plants, on rocks. It is necessary to do one of two things- either pull the eggs to be hatched in a small tank or else pull the adults. Not doing this will usually result in eggs for lunch.

I prefer to remove the eggs to a smaller tank. I normally use a 50/50 mix of spawning tank water and new water. Temp about 80 F, airstone and methyblu. When you see wigglers, get the methyblu out of the water using carbon. Once the fry hatch out they do not need any food until they have absorbed their yolk sac fully.

At that stage I normally move in a rock covered with java moss from another tank- this does two thing- provides bacteria related to the cycle and infusoria- tiny food for fry. I begin feeding cyclop-eeze (frozen is better than the FD). As they mature, I will suppliment this with sinking foods that soften- sinking wafers, earthworm sticks. The best food for them is live, but I do not culture/raise live food unless I absolutely must.

Feed a few times/day (3-4) and then vac about 15-20 mins later using and airline size vac into a bucket- you will suck up fry and will need to return them (a turkey baster can be invaluable in doing this). If you do not end up changing 10% of the water daily via the vacs, then do so additionally. The fry need an even temp, regular feeding and very clean water, but try to avoid doing large changes at first. The 10%/day should be enough.

Thanks TwoTankAmin

So I would raise them the same as I've raised my bronze and panda fry. I put the eggs in a breeding net that is already covered in algae and has some java moss (which normally has the panda eggs on it) in it. We feed our pandas and bronze microworms after 3-4 days. I'm just trying to get the sterbai's to spawn since the bronze and pandas are at it all the time. Even my otos have spawned for me (of which I have fry in the fry tank too).

Well, hopefully after I try some different live food, (I'll have to see if I can find red worms), hopefully I'll have some spawning sterbai too. I know I have a definate female and 2 definate males, just not sure about the 4th.

Thanks a lot, and keep well, Carmen :D
