Sometimes after I do my weekly water changes on my 55 gallon, one of Bronze C. Aeneus will lay on its side for about 10 minutes and then gets up and swims away and everything is fine. I see it digging in the sand and playing with all the other cories. Anyone else have one that does this or knows why it was do this?

Thanks

Probably has to do with the water being added not being as close to the water being removed. What kind of water do you add? Do you dechlorinate before or after adding it to the tank? Some people use those pythons to directly add the water from the faucet then add it to the water in the tank. Also, the temperature of the water you're adding might not be the same to the tank which may cause a fish to react that way.

I add water from the same place every time. Ive only seen it lay like that 2 times, yesterday and once when I first got it about 5 months ago. The temperature of the water is very close if not exactly the same as the tank water. Its the only one that does it and its fine very soon after.

Is there any discoloration like redness around the gills? Or heavy breathing? Some fish are more sensitive than others to changes, more so if they are feeling stressed out. It could also be nothing but a quirk with that cory and not a sign of anything actually wrong.

There isn't any redness at all or anything different. I think its just something that particular cory does. Whats funny about it is that the other 3 bronze cories I have in there with it will sit there right beside it until it gets up and they all swim away together. Its almost like they are protecting it.

Hi Barracuda518 :)

I've never seen a cory do that. It's not at all what you would expect. You just might want to keep a special eye on him to be sure he is OK otherwise. :D

I know, it seems very strange, but I can't see anything wrong with it :dunno:

Ive been checking on it off and on since yesterday and its doing the usual things cories do.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your Cory. I experienced that once with a young cory that I had, I didn't regulate the water temp before putting them back in the tank after a cleaning(the water they were in was rather cold and the water in the clean tank was much to warm) unfortunately my cory didn't make it, it was too big of a shock on his system and he died almost instantly. it seems that your cory is probably doing something similar(just not quite as extreme!) if he still acts fine I wouldn't worry about it though!
