Hi all,

I managed to save approx 40 cory eggs off the side of my main tank a week ago, I put the eggs into one of them netted hatchery boxes, with airstone underneath and a week later when I thought all the eggs were fungused and was ready to throw them out I noticed about half a dozen wigglers, I'm soooooooo excited and want to do all I can to help these babies survive. They are a day old.

Should I leave them where they are in the little box, at the top of my main tank or would it be best to set them up in their own little tank with heater/filter/airstone?

So any advice/help/tips anyone could give would be great!!

Thanks.

Where are the parent cories and what kind of filter is it. If the parents are by themselves and your using a sponge filter, I'd wait untill your fry grew a little more. the parents won't bother the fry once you put them in there. :good:

Hi Fifi :)

You will need to get them out of there sooner rather than later. While some people have some degree of success raising a very few corys in nets, it's difficult to do and really not a good idea.

The good news is that if your corys gave you 40 or more eggs, they will probably be giving you more again soon. This time you will be prepared and ready to save as many as possible and give the fry the best chance for survival. What are you going to feed them?

What kind of corys do you have and what other fish are in the tank with them?

Thanks for the replies :)

bike_riding_cichlid --- The parent cories are in a 3 foot tank with a flaval 4 filter, In the tank are 2 albino, 5 trilineatus, 4 peppered and 4 bronze cories.

Inchworm --- At the minute I have 5 babies and they are tiny, 3 days old, they are still in the breeding box with an airstone beneath them in a heated/filtered tank.

I got a tub of TetraMin Baby powder food which I have been feeding them twice a day.

I have 2 albino cories, 5 trilineatus, 4 peppered and 4 bronze, not sure yet what the babies are, plus 3 male mollies, a betta and about a dozen apple snails. I'm more worried about the apple snails or the betta eating the babies than the adult cories.

Do you think it would be better if I set up my spare Aquaone320 with heater and airstone for the babies to go in or leave where they are for now? :/

Thanks!!

There's definately something in the water!! :good:

Went to check and feed the baby cories this morning, there's still 5 alive and doing well but to my surprise :hyper: I noticed a tiny baby fish poking at the breeding box as if to say "you gonna let me in"
It's definately not a cory baby, no idea what it is, it's got to be one of the following... either a glass catfish, a danio, a neon tetra, a black widow or a bleeding heart I managed to cup it and put it in the box with the baby cories.

Any thoughts on what it is ?

Hi Fifi :)

Do you have any idea which of the corys spawned? It's possible that you have more than one of them spawning in that tank.

Hi Inchworm :)

Sorry I have no idea who the parents are of the baby cories, could be any of them, as the eggs were there in the morning, I suppose it will be a case of waiting till they are bigger to see what species they are.

Just like the baby fish who was swimming in the main tank, I've named it "lucky" I've no idea who that one belongs to.

They seem to be doing well on the TetraMin Baby powder food, shall I stick with this for a while?

Do you think it would be better if I set up my spare Aquaone320 with heater and airstone for the babies to go in or leave where they are for now?

Hi Fifi :)

I would suggest setting up the other tank for them. Fill 1/3 to 1/2 of the tank with water that they are in now so that the move will be easy for them. You'll also want to get a small sponge filter started in there sometime soon. You can start out with a bare bottom, as long as you keep it clean, and then add a thin layer of playsand.

You'll want to do a small water change every day. If they are able to eat the food you are feeding them, there is no reason to stop giving it to them. You might want to consider adding protein rich live food like microworms of baby brine shrimp too.

Hi Inchworm :)

I set up the small tank for the babies, which I now only have 3 of, the other 2 died in the breeding box :(

I set the tank using some sand from the tank the parents are in and afterwards I had a little clean up and water change of the parent tank only to find at least 20 babies, in amonst the plants and caves. I have left them all in there as they seem to be looking well and healthy, I might put the 3 babies I see hatch from eggs into the parent tank as there are loads of hideyholes and the other fish dont seem that bothered by them being there.

Thanks for all the advice you have given me, most helpful. :)

Hi Fifi :)

Thanks for posting your news, both the good and the sad. Let's hope the little ones you found will grow and do well.

If your corys spawn again will you try to hatch the eggs and raise the fry?
