Hello, I asked this in the Betta section but thought I'd double check in the Catfish Cradle. From the research I've been doing it seems corys will be ok with a male betta. Is that right? I'd like to move my Betta into a bigger tank with filtration and get a few panda corys.

Many have success with Bettas and cories. Just make sure you have a backup plan. My betta just chased the cories and hassled them non stop. Stole their algae wafers too, very funny to see the betta swimming around with this big ol wafer in his mouth.
The betta ended up in his own tank.

That's what I'm afraid of, my betta seems like a bully. He killed his last roomate (a ramshorn snail).

We have a male betta in with 2 aeneus cories and 1 haroldschultzi cory. Plus an USD cat (and we used to have a trilineatus cory that just died)... and they all get along swimmingly (pardon the pun). Our betta flared and postured for about a day or two after introductions, but that's it. They all get along very well. The betta just flares and postures at the leopard angels, but that's because they try to nip his fins. He's never hurt anyone though...

I have pygmy corys in 1 of my betta tanks and they get along absolutly fine. As long as there is cover for the corys to hide in and they arent absolutly tiny there should be no problems.

I had panda cories with a betta once. All he did was flare at them and they wouldn't budge. A few days later, the betta is scrounging around the bottom of the tank with the cories.

When I used to have a betta in a community tank with cories, they got along great. Bettas aren't that fast and cories can realy swim if they want to so it's generaly safe to keep them together as you'll have time to spot potential problems. You should provide the cories with cover anyway but I think they'll get along fine.

Give it a try

I set up a cory/betta tank and the betta flared at the cories laods at first. we divided to tank in two with a makeshift divider till the cories had setlled in and could stand up for themselves, and it all worked out nicely. ;)

I've kept male and female Bettas with Cories and have a male in with mine and several snails right now with no problems.

Thanks for the responses! I feel much more confident this will work. I think I will purchuse a divider to start out with. I like the idea of Betta being able to see them but not touch them right away.

Hi Zombies :)

I raise corys and keep bettas in a number of their tanks. They are a great combination. My bettas always seem to enjoy watching the corys and one of them even used to go into the cory cave with them.

Some betta keepers put salt in the water as a routine. You should not do this if you have corys because it will cause them to have kidney damage and will eventually kill them.

Pandas are delicate and somewhat shy little corys that are often difficult to keep. You might want to check out some of the other fine corys too. The bronze and albino C. aeneus are quite active and interesting little fish. :D
