One of my C.Sterbai is acting out of character, it seems very lifeless however is still feeding, it is also keeping its dorsal fin flat to its body rather than upright like usual and seems to be breathing very quickly. the water is fine and i have done a 20% change today. There are no visible marks on its body. all the other fish seem fine.

anyone got any ideas or advice? i was going to go to my lfs today anyway so could pick something up

Did you actually test the water? What where the readings?
Has it been going up for air a lot?
Have you added anything new? How big is the tank? What else is in the tank?
More information is really needed to be of much help. Without more information any answer would be nothing more than a stab in the dark that could do more harm than good.

the water readings are
nitrate - 0-10
nitrite- 0
pH- 6.6
ammonia - 0
temp 24C

he seems to have picked up a bit since having some brine shrimp, i'll keep an eye on him over the next few days

Edited: i can see the problem now, his fins look like theyve been nipped and hes developed fin rot, ive got some treatment so will give that a go, unfortunatly weve got a rogue krib which sometimes takes it upon herself to attack the corys. my other krib had the same problem but has made a full recovery now after treatment so hopefully this will sort it out. thanx for the reply, i'll let you know how i get on

In almost all cases, Corys should not be kept with kribs. Kribs are aggressive Cichlids. Corys are defenseless and non aggressive. General rule of thumb: don't keep Corys with Cichlids.

This combination ends usually baddly for the Cory.

unfortunatly i learnt that the hard way. I have managed to rehome one of my kribs tonight and think i may have rehomed the other one aswell even though he leaves the corys alone. its a shame but i must admit i have a soft spot for corys and would rather keep them than the kribs
