Hey, I was wondering when a corner tank is measured at 34.5 x 34.5 x 26. Exactly what i what since isn't exactly a perfectly squared tank?

Thanks in advance :)

logicaly i think corner tanks are measured in length by width.
a corner tank is a corner tank. the angle will always be 90 degrees (right angle).
maybee on custom tanks the angle could be fitted to a certain corner thats different like 112 instead of 90 degrees.

The measurements are going to be the flat sides on the two equal ones, and the last one is height. Based on those measurements, that's a BIG tank.

To calculate volume of a corner tank, assuming it has a bow front which most do, I THINK you'd do it like this.

First, assume that quarter of a slice is a full circle.

V = (pi*r^2) * h
V = (3.14 * 34.5 * 34.5) * 26
V = 97172.01

Now to convert that number to gallons, multiply by 0.0043. I don't remember where I got that number, so just trust me :p

V = 97172.01 * 0.0043
V = 417.8 gallons

So a full cylinder with a 34.5" radius would be 417 gallons. But a corner tank is only a slice of said cylinder, so divide that measurement by 4

V = 417.840 / 4
V = 104.5 gallons

I think I did my maths right. It's been a long time since I passed a maths class though ;)

yeah, exactly as I calculated it!! ;) :p

I've seen a number of corner tank (and am seriously looking at one) where the tank is square but with a corner cut off, not an equal cut along what would become the hypotenous (sp?) but it leaves two long sides touching and then two short sides with a diagonal connecting them.

I've seen those too - those are really stunning.

This one is quite small, it looks like it's basically a 2 foot cube with a corner sliced off. It's going for £45 second hand and by my reckoning is going to be in the 20 to 30 gallon region.

If I had anywhere I could fit it in the flat I'd grab it, drill it, sump it and have a marine tank. But with just having ordered the 150gal for the big bad FW boys, the lady doesn't see room for another tank (I don't see room for a dining room table but that's another story... :p )
