hi all

do cories help keep bga forming on a sand substrate? as when you think about they would constantly be moving and churniong the sand around, so it would be hard for the blue green algae to settle on the sand, as it would be constantly getting moved around.

so would cories help keep bga off the sand and stop it compacting etc?

coz if it does i will be getting some of them, definatly

cheers for any help :good:

Although I doubt catfish do anything to get rid of blue-green algae once it's there, your logic is sound about having catfish in sandy aquaria. I always do, and consider them (or loaches) part of the deal, along with Malayan livebearing snails. It doesn't really mattery what catfish you use, though Corydoras are probably among the best; mine love to plough through the sand, spewing it out there gills. But my Panaque does the same thing, albeit much more clumsily.

The sand will, eventually, compact at the bottom unless you have the snails. They are really the only things that "aerate" the sand in the same way earthworms do in soil.

Cheers,

Neale
