If i want to keep some corals, do i need to get additives like Calcium. Will i need to monitor any of theses factors with a test kit?

The corals i intend on keeping are Mushrooms, Zoa's, xenia, toadstool and ricordeas (yep list has got bigger)

Any other advice on what i need to buy if i want to keep corals?

My other question was, what is a phosphate remover do i need it? (well i know it removes phophates, but are they dangerous?)

A link to my tank stats can be found in my sig.

Thanks for looking :)

Ah right, then no, you will not need to add supplements or test for calcium

you dont need to add mag an clac for softies. Just regular water changes with a reef grade salt.

You do need to keep ontop of phosphates, high phosphates really slow down growth of corals and makes them go brown.

Thanks. Ok, then another question.

How would i run a phosphate remover, there little tablet things right? that go in a HOB filter?

Ill only have LR as a means to filter the tank so how would i use a phosphate remover?

Oh, while im asking, whats cheato? do i need it.

Sorry for all the questions, the answers must sound so obvious to you all! :)

Its are a powder like coffee. It goes in a little sack thing in a high flow area like a cansiter filter. Unless you go down the reactor route.

Will looks at phosphate reacters in a bit. I just *googled* and it said you can put it in a net next to the powerhead? Have you heard of that?

cheato is a type of algea. Its used to remove nitrate (i think its nitrate always get them mixed up) people normally have this in there sump.

ok so any other ways to run a phosphate remover *except* a filter and reactor.

or is that completely IMPOSSiBLE? :look:

Sorry for all the daft questions!

i run mine in the bag, at the end of the downpipe to my sump. gets loads of flow there. Loads of people run it in back chambers of nano tanks as they get quite a bit of flow through them.

get a cheap power head, a TMC bubble stop (small) and 20cm of hosepipe, fit the pipe onto the powerhead outlet, and the bag of PO4 remover in the bubble stop, which hangs on the tank, then place the pipe into the bubble stop so that the water being pumped by the powerhead runs over the phosphate remover.
