Coraline Algae

cheers, as i am using the artificial reef rock, and powerheads to mimic a marine tank, will i get any bacteria on them as live rocks do??

yes, you will get some bacteria on them but no filtering capabilities  you sure you can't push the boat out for some live rock, you can get it now for about £5 a kilo (not form shops)

ps

have just replied on your plants sale form :good:

I just havnt got the money, and surely it will die off being in a freshwater/brackish conditions for the best part of 10 months?

Actually, before i say no to this idea, can you explain it and its benefits/advantages/disadvantages

thanks :)

Well, you could buy it over the ten months and keep it in a holding tank - you would only need flow!!

Benefits: Natural filtration without the need for external and the problems they can 'sometimes' cause, lots of marine bugs can live and grow on them, nice natural food for your fish, free hitchhikers and it is interesting to watch life emerge.

IMO also looks more natural, a slice of the reef in your own home

ps can't think of a disadvantage

not to keen on keeping it in a seperate container, my dad would hit the roof!

you mentioned about getting "dead live rock" and then adding some fully cured when at the correct sg. is this the same price? how would i go about it, i havnt seen any dead rock for sale.

You may or may not like this but i think i will get the artifical rock as planned, and then when in marine conditions if i want to and have the money i will buy live rock, etc.

thanks for your help

Agree with a lot of advice given here. Exceptionally low Phosphates is probably the toughest thing to get it to grow. High magnesium is also important, and so is calcium and alkalinity. You need SOME light, but light really is nowhere near as much of a limiting factor as the phosphate, mag, alk, or calc
