anyone got any or know where to get any quite cheap in and around norwich? had a look on ebay but was just wondering if i could get it a bit cheaper. need quite a bit as its going in my malawi tank set up and the tank is 3 and half foot. thanks

That price per Kg is more than if you buy from ebay. At least it is from the seller I use!

yeah but i'm kinda after something that is about 20-25 inches long and about 10-15 inches high.

are you looking for it to be one large piece of rock?

because most people just use multiple pieces and put them together, getting aquarium rock that size is going to be very hard  and could possibly be abit on the heavy side aswell

As mattyd1701 has said, I think you will struggle to find bits that big!

ah ok. but knowing my luck i probably wouldn't be able to put it together (it would probably fall down) if it was like lego i'd be sorted. would you say 12kg of coral rock would be enough? i really don't know how heavy it is or anything. thanks again.

Well I have a Juwel Trigon 190 that currently has 30kg of rock in it but I have just brought another 20kg because I dont think 30kg was enough (PM me and I can give you details of the seller). Just remember to put the rocks on the glass not on the top of your substrate! (you can use egg crates etc to put on the glass). Malawis are good diggers so you dont want your rock falling down and smashing your glass! Coral rock is fairly easy to stack, remember you need to create lots of caves and hiding places to ease aggression, stacking makes this really easy!

Let me know if you want to see a picture of mine as it is with 30kg in.

yeah i was going to put the rock on a plastic under gravel filter pieces i've got left over from the smaller tank. mainly to ease the pressure on the glass. i really wanted quite alot to be able to make caves and places. that and over stocking of the fish is what i've been told is best with malawi set ups. yeah pls mate. i'll pm you now.

Hey, I have sent you a message with a link to the seller and a few pictures, I hope you get it as I have your email but no record of your message on here!

Hi
Are you choosing ocean coral rock purely on the basis that it helps the water parameter's for a malawi tank? or do you actually like the rock? Personally mate id save your money as coral rock is stupidly priced and use bolders/slate/limestone will look a 1000times more natural than coral rock too. Plus you can always have crushed coral in the filter to help the PH (If that's the reason for having coral rock that is)

I know for me it was just because I like the look of the coral rock and that my other tanks have other types of rock work so I wanted a change.

I Dont mind it, when it gets a good amount of algae on the rock then it looks good.

well if your worried about it fallen apart you can get aquarium safe Putty

the salty tank keepers use that stuff to glue coral and live rocks together in there tanks

Examples

if you glue sections of it together then place them in the tank once its set and arrange it how you want it the putty/glue what ever you want to call it will hold it all together no problem at all

another option is to use Aquarium Silicone Sealant that holds rocks stones etc together very well just make sure it is fully dry before moving the rocks

hello
thanks for all your replies.
yeah i got your message, looks good mate. that seller on ebay is the one ive already been looking at lol
i kind of wanted it for the look of the tank once its all set up although the water condition is important (if your going to do something might aswell do it right)
i wouldnt have thought a bit of coral rock in the internal filter and a bigger bit in the external filter would give you the same water condition as 40-50kg in the tank. i do see your point though that would be much cheaper.
would of thought slate would be too hard to be able to make enough hiding spots/caves for the fish as they do get quite large?
yeah i'll have to get some fish safe sealant.
thanks again
rich.
