hi i need some advice about my coral, i have tested the water and everything is fine, i have changed my lighting to a twin aquaray light unit a while ago and did have a 150w mh, i only changed the lighting due to the cost of running a mh, one of the corals seems to be dieing off in the middle, any advice would be good. i bought the tank of someone and it had a bad algae problem which i am dealing with at the moment.
thanks

I would hazard a guess at a phosphate problem lots of algae high phosphates will kill corals

how long are the lights on a day?
What level is your phosphates?
what is the TDS of your RO?
Are you running any rowaphos etc. ? if so when was it last changed?

What level are your nitrates at?

hi the lights are on for about 12 hours a day
phosphates are 0.5
yes i have rowaphos in the sump which is a new bag
im not sure about the tds? how do i test that?
i also have a skimmer
when i got the tank the nitrates were quite bad but they are zero now, also the calcium seems to be quite high
thank you

I would half the lighting time to reduce algae growth .5 is very high if you have a new rowapos in there make sure there is plenty of flow over it or consider a reactor.

Where are you getting your water from, is it RO ?

will the corals still be ok with less light? also i have a load of algae crabs but they dont seem to be dealing with the algea, could you recomend anything else? and yes i have a ro unit
thanks

Corals will be fine under 6 hours of light I would recomend buying a TDS meter to test the output of your RO unit

ok thanks, do you think my twin aquaray led lighting unit is enough for this coral?

yes plus mushrooms, and i think the main one is a acopora but im not to sure?

If you have an acropora in there 2 aqurays will not be enough I am guessing you will need 8 if not more dependant on tank size and depth post a piccy of the one you believe is an acropora.

hi no they are all softies, i have spent all night scrubbing the rocks and took the coral out and seperated the rotting bits, that is now in a smaller tank with a 150w light above it, i also added some more powerfull powerheads. the tank does look a lot better now. hopefully it will be ok now.
thanks for the advice
