coral cutting

Hi...I have recently bought a couple of corals for my tank.One of them when open looks like a cauliflour when out and like a trumpet when it goes in...not too sure what it is ....if anyone knows would be greatful of the name....The bottom of it (rock bit) is actually split in 2 as is the head of the coral........it is only joined by the middle bit...does anyone know if i am able to split this into 2 and the best way of doing it as i think it will do better as 2 pieces...thx

Look up "Dendronepthya" in google. Does it look like these?


If so then let me know as they are probably the most difficult coral to keep and will need specialist requirements. If its a normal soft coral then you can simply cut it with a razor blade to seperate it. I would remove it first though and place it in a bucket of tank water to do the job. After about half an hour of leaving it in the bucket you can then place it back in the tank. They can release harmful chemicals if they are cut and stressed so its safer to keep them out of the potential danger of polluting the tank.

hi thank you......no it isn't that one.....i will try and identify it......do you know any good sites that will enable me to do this.....im sure where we had it from had it down as a cauliflower coral.......but surely it must have a proper name.....

Take a search for "Colt Coral" or "Pussey coral"

Could be a frogspawn or a hammer.
