I was researching ich treatments even thought I knew I would just do the heat/salt thing but I stumbled across a warning.

From here http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/general...ral_pagesid=244

Many commercial Ich treatments utilize copper to kill the Ich parasite. This is fine in fish only aquariums, but copper is toxic to aquatic invertebrates like snails, crabs, shrimp and crayfish.

Before you treat your tank with any medication make sure there is no copper in it.

No, do not kill bacteria in the tank. Not sure where the other poster has the information. Copper is a metal that will likely kill or not kill invested (not always) of sand or rock unless invers kills living in or on it. NOT AFFECT bacteria in any way.If you have a reef or a salt deposit, you should use Ruby Reef Kick things like ich or otherslike it. Saltwater ICH murderers only. Freshwater Medications will not work in a salt deposit.

copper kills fish too.. not just invertibrates.

use salt to stimulate slimecoat growth that will help heal sores, fin damage.. it will also help to treat various fungi and ich.

use pimafix and/or melafix for stuff that the salt doesn't help or doesn't help fast enough.

Everything is toxic in excess..... Copper is particularly bad for inverts at even low levels, Magnesium from leaky thermometers can kill everything, Salts can cause gill burns on non salt tolerant fish, Melafix is tea tree oil based which is also toxic in high quantities, Both a lack of oxygen and an excess of oxygen can be bad.
