Hey guys
Bet your getting sick now but just one last question
I dont know how many people keep convicts but which do you prefer?

Normal stripy
Albino,pink?
Calico-marbled

Male or female?

If female can you keep two together or not?
thanks alot

I've never kept them, but I personally prefer the normal stripey high contrast ones... I like the males better, but if you like colour, you'd definitely prefer the females with their red tummies

Which color variation to get is a complete personal choice. I like the “Normal stripy” ones best myself.

Males have longer, fancier fins where females have more color variation. Again which is ‘better’ is personal preference. I’ve successfully kept two males together but only when in a vast aquarium where they can remain away from each other. I’ve kept two females together in much smaller quarters and have found that females with no male presence are quite peaceful with one another. A pair plus one ‘odd fish out’ will almost definitely result in a dead third fish. Although I’ve never tried, I would guess that keeping two pairs could be compared to keeping two males. It can happen but it would take a huge environment and good luck.

I’ve had Convicts breed in a community Cichlid aquarium without any fatalities or injuries, but it does require a very well balanced stock.

Hi ther
So do you think that if I got two young females and put them in a tank together by themselves that they would be ok?
I really like the marbles convicts but also the stripy ones so If can keep two females I can have both :D
thanks vicky

Anytime we house Cichlids there are risks involved of things not working out. No one can say “yes, that will definitely work”, but I can at least say, “I’ve done something very similar to that with success, and cannot see why you won’t.”

But, I think your pretty safe on it, especially since they will be raised together from babies.
