im still thinking about it but im willing to sell my 2 scoals of zebras and neons
for convicts, but what tank mats can they have?

How many gallons is ur tank?

Are u intending to breed?

2 convicts in a 20 gal is the minimum no other tank mates as they will die sooner or later. if you're selling the tetras and danios for the conviocts you might aswell sell eveything else. maybe the loach will survive but needs a bigger tank anyways.if its betta fry theyll be eaten, not to sure on the otos, and the rams(since theyre fragile) will surely die

HTH

sorry if i sounded harsh

i dont know i wish i knew this forum before i bought my bigger tank! since this forum has changed my aqurium so much its too much. dont worry the loach will be moved to a 55 im getting this next christmas the bettas will have their own tanks. but if i get these convicts, only little isay .75 inch, all i cn have is those and the loach?

You must understand, fish grow, and faster than humans, by far. If they don't have adequate room to grow, they stay small, but their organs continue to grow, resulting in death, of course. (I picked that up from this forum, not too sure about the accuracy of that statement, though :p)

Either way, it is better to have fish in tank conditions that suit them, otherwise they will die or be extremely unhappy and die from stress and other factors.

All of us have fish that we would love to put in our tanks, but there are limits. Part of being a good aquarist is knowing the limitations of your tanks and the compatibility and potential health risks (to the fish) involved with the type of stock you choose.

OK ... please dont hate me but this might come across as a bit rough

1. I've been reading a bunch of posts by you lately and it seems like you have no idea what fish you really want to keep. Thats ok... it took me forever to decide.

2. If you are going to ask questions you should be prepared to hear answers you dont like .... thats ok too everyone has a differnt opinion ... thats what makes the world go round

so that being said

Please take your clown back or get the 55 now. He needs friends. He needs more room. I know you love em but you really should consider the welfare of the fish. I have a 55 and wouldnt keep clowns because of the size and needs... I got kulhis instead.

I have not kept convics but a friend did, several years ago. He said they were agressive and killed everything else in the tank (I dont know what the tankmates were though).

Think carefully about the fish you have and what you want your longterm fishie goals to be. It costs to much in cash and headaches to get fish on impulse then decide you cant keep them and have to take them back or have them die or have to get new tanks and supplies all the time (well the last one isnt so bad :*) )

This is the rule I try to abide by when making purchases: First the tank THEN the fish... meaning RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH then get the setup perfect then make the trip to my favorite LFS for the fishie ...

The wait has ALWAYS been worth it ... I have lost a very few fish to stress or disease.

I hope this can help... good luck :)

corykitty thank you, it is taking some tme for me to figure out what i want but cichlids are defintly it. I cant get the 55 now, i may bring him back but he is my favorite fish so it would be tough, and trust me i research research. I just read about 10 articles in this forum about convicts and about 10 websites about convicts.
I acyually only lost 3 fish these last 2 months, all to random death, 2 otos and a neon.
How is this setup
2 convicts
1 clown
Does it work?
Can anything else be added?

1 clown doesnt work anywhere, That being said I have the same question this young fellow has except that I'm looking for fish to go in a 240 US I'm thinking of going for 10 cons so I'm likely to get 4 pairs and two strays, any other fish I can add (Yes I have something to do with the fry)

as i said before, a pair will do fine in a 20 gal. just with nothing else. having one convict isn't going to help you keep only 1 clown fish which should have 2 friends or more which should have a big tank.

might sound harsh but thats the truth

Here's a previous topic I replied in asking about Convicts, my reply is last but 1 and quite detailed i think!!

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=69752

Is this tank I also have 4 scissors tails, 5 banjo cats and a butterfly fish. If you do want to keep any fish it will have to be at the extremes of the levels like banjo cats bury them selves away and ABF stay right at the top. The scissor tails just don't bother the fry at all so the convicts have left them alone so far, although I am watching carefully.

Your loach have to go though, no questions about it, it will grow to big, it requires to be in a small group and it is a scavenger so will have a crack at the eggs/fry therefore the convicts will kill it.

I've been saying this to him all along! Either he has a problem listening (or reading I guess it is), or he doesn't really care if his Clown Loach lives or dies!
O, and contrary to Dwarf Dude (who is a lot nicer than me, I think :p) I am NOT sorry if I sounded harsh!
