Convicts

Sounds like he wants to breed. You could try removing that cave and re-arranging the decor. This may or may not work. Be prepared to have to move him quickly before he kills. Do you have another tank set up ?

Cons are at their most lethal and aggressive when breeding but when kept singularly can be rather peacefull females especially as the males do tend to get more terratorial with age. But with suitable tank mates and suitable tank then i see no reason for someone to not be able to keep a single male or female convict in a cichlid community throughout it's life. There is no doubt that this speciese can be a formidable opponent to even the largest of cichlids but i think this caracteristic is over milked a little. Cons are a great fish

I know people whove had them so placid they've been kept with angels and so aggressive that not even oscars could be kept with them. To up your chances of getting a less aggressive con i suggest buying a young female and have her grow into her surroundings with the other fish presant then she will be far more likely to be tolerant of them and a hirerachy (sp?) will soon be formed as with all cichlid communities.
