convicts

im canadian... so that 150 turns into about 200... which i cannot afford.... i will try a pair of convicts in a 10 gallon.. if things do not work out they can be separated... and even if they wont breed o well... ill have 2 cool fish in the tank .. as i said before... they can be separated... and if they do breed and i have tons of babies... i should have enough room to hold them all.. i also have friends with tanks that would surely want them... ill let u all know how things go as it seems my setup is causing somewhat of a ruckus in the forum lol

They are goign to destroy eachother in the 10 most likely. Do a 20 atleast with lots of hidding places. Its not much more money.

I've kept a breeding pair of cons in my 40Gal with smiliar fish to yours in the past. I never had any probs at all really.

convicts were $9 each for bigger ones... or i could go to diff store and get 2 for $9... for really small ones...... still not sure what i am going to do

mine 2 are about 3 inches long and i got them for 4 dollars each
they are in a ten gallon tank and they are doing great
water quality is fine and they dont even mess with each other
3 caves for them to hide and plant to take cover under

mines are 3 inches and cost me 1.50 each or 6 for 8 dollars
at what age can u tell there sexes

alrdy bought the 10... ppl have told me theyve been fine in a 10 so i will try ...... everywhere here they are like $8 or more each <CDN>
which isnt good price for me
i was hoping to find them for like 3-4$ each

I paid $1.49 for the 4 of mine. They were about 1-2"

My female is 1.5" and she already has visible orange on her belly

Most of the ones they sell here are the pink variety. I actually had to look around to get myself a few striped ones. The pink ones just don't have any visual appeal to me.

Last time i bred cons, i mated a pink one with a normal striped female. All of the babies were striped like the mother. I always wondered if i bred one of these babies with another pink one, if i would get a mixed batch?

For example, if the Striped is the dominant gene SS and the pink is recessive ss. If you breed then together you should get Ss. Now breed an Ss with an ss pink convict and you should get 25% SS, 50% Ss and 25% ss. The majority in this case would be striped but there would be a few pink ones. Hmmm...maybe i will try it this time.

Also, anyone know where you can order a Honduran Red Point convict cichlid? I saw a pic and they are gorgeous. I've heard they are pretty rare over here. I'd like to breed up a few. I'm sure i would have no problem selling the fry
