I like convict's pattern and I was wondering if something like that would ever work for my tank? I am leaning towards no but I found some setups where people have adult convicts with zebra daninos in the same tank without deaths! what do you guys think?

There will always be people who "get away" with breaking the "rules". In my opinion, Convicts have a severe attitude problem.

I would say definatel NO!!!! Cons can get very aggressive and territorial.
In your current tank a con would kill most of your other fish just too have more room to itself..
I would personally only suggest putting cons with other cichlids that can hold their own aggressive wise...and size wise.
Like lateral said some people can get away with breaking the rules the majority cant and end up with a disaster in their tanks ie alot of dead fish..

They are aggressive little buggers. My gf has one that will acctually bite at her if she sticks her hand in her territory to move things around.

I'm probably one of the people that can get away with it.

I have 4 cons (1 a breeding pair) in a tank with a few other fish and have zero problems. I even have a betta in the tank. The funny thing is the betta chases the cons around if they go near HIS territory. I think i'm gonna have to remove the betta though. The barbs like his fins too much.

Other than that my tank gets along fine. I may remove the two non-breeding cons simply because i only wanted 1 pair in this tank

Mustang the reason I think you are currently getting away with it is because
1 your tank is twice the size of his
2 your tank is not already overloaded
3 the other fish you have are small enough not to be taken as a territorial threat {betta and barbs}or bottom dwellers
4 basically right now your fish have plenty of room

Well, true. I guess the main point of my little post was to point out that there are times when you can get away with something.

yep, I was looking at the size of your tank too hehe

but too bad... I can't get any cons
