Well, I was lookin around at the LFS, and the onwer told me has a nursery setup w/ cons in it, and however many I can catch, I can keep. So, instead of netting all the little guys, I just grabbed up 6, ranging in size from 1/2 inch - 1 inch. My questions are after some drastic moving of fish I have a 10 gal tank and I'm about to add them to it.

Would the 10 gal be suffecient to find me a breeding pair out of the 6?

How long will it take for them to pair off?

Ultimately these guys will be put into a 75- 90 gal w/ my Oscar and JD. Any ideas on the long term setup, is it okay?

6 cons in a 10g wont last long at all. Do you plan on taking 4 back when 2 pair off? If not, it's gonna get nasty. For a breeding pair, I think about 30g is minimum.

And 6 cons in a 75-90 with an oscar and JD will be equally bad.

I've made arrangements to take the 4 back, it was a condition on me taking the 6, cause I knew I couldn't house them all. I mean will the 10 gal be okay for me to get a pair established out of the 6? Would 6 be enough to successfully get a pair? He had some already showing female spots on the belly, but I opted not to get any that big.

They (the pair) will end up in a 55 gal w/ a JD and Oscar. Then in about 6 months everyone goes to 90 or better to live the good life. :good:

hwo big are the oscar and jd? an oscar alone should have a 75 gallon tank. 6 months may be too long. at least you have a 90 gallon. soem people just say oh i have an oscar and jd in a fifty five gallon. will this work. we tell them at least 75 they say but i dont want a 75 gallon, it costs too much

well, I dont have a 90 gall just yet, which is why I need the 6 months to budget it. But I have all the intentions in the world of getting them in something bigger than a 75 gal.

Mainly because I'd hate to see my little 2 inch Oscar and 2 inch JD one day all cramped up in a atank w/ just gravel.

So I'd be okay w/ the 10 gal until they pair off?

They grow fairly fast, so you've probably got a month or two before they get too big. When a pair forms (and there's nothing to say that a pair will form with ease or that only one pair will form), you're going to have to be quick to evict the others.

Convicts will turn into convict in a 10g tank..

Most likely, if you just keep 2, 1 will kill the other..

Not a good idea keeping convicts in a 10g tank.

most likely. I used to have a pink convict w/ a jd in a 10 gallon and they even spawned in it.

i dno, aoving couple of cons can live in a 10g, i know people with a pair ina 10g i think someone on here has a pair in a 10g

I keep a pair in a 10 gallon without any problems. But I tend to do some things that aren't "by the book". If you know your fish it can be done.

To the OP... yes, you have a very high chance of getting a pair, and they will pair off just fine. Rehome the others after the pair forms as you planned and all will be good :D.

another classic ''I only accept the answer I want topics''

/time wasted

Huh? I think my original post was never answered. All the comments about 6 cons in a 10 gal didn't apply. The original question was would I be able to grow out 6 cons in a 10 gal tank. Not how many cons would live forever in a 10 gall tank, so when all the useless post like your other one in this thread appeared, I had no choice but to ignore.

Not to mention that posters before your original post stated that the same thing you did, so you wasted your time w/ that post.

If you think time was wasted, how much was wasted by answering your own question and not the original post question? :good:

I hate to be rude, but maybe its just cause I'm an American, so in the words of our mates cross the pond....bugger off
