Convict Cichlid temperature

Ok I have read if you keep the watter a little cooler it will keep them calmer, but what is a good temperature to keep them at to keep them happy?

20-23C is about right.

Oops, I keep them too warm I guess, it's 25-26...
Is it okay if I lower it slowly? Or best to leave it like it is now?

Well around 25C they start mating hehe. but 20-23 is where they normally should be. But not to worry. 25 is okay too

The general rule is: the higher the temp the higher the metabolic rate of the fish... they will grow faster, but require more food. prob. better chance of them breedin at higher temp too...

Maybe a stupid question then: but say if you don't want your cons to breed, it should help if you lower the temp then?
I actually want them to breed, but maybe this could help for the future, if I want them to stop

convicts are a pretty hardy, forgiving fish from what I've read, getting 4 on thursday, so finding this post pretty interesting to say the least lol From the researching I've been doing I back up what everyone else has been saying so far, although researching is nothing compared to hands on experience
