Is this okay? My oscar cant seem to catch the two I just put in but im sure he will eventually. I have so many Convict fry I have to do something with em.

EDIT: yea he just rammed one into gravel and gulped it down lol was awesome

Take them to the lfs? or kill them with ethenol? got to be more humane......

why feed them fish? theres no need to

well ya but i have like 100 fry the lfs doesnt want em they say so I relly have no other option its either feed em to oscar and shovelnose cat or maybe dump em into the tank at my great grandparents ranch

Actually i dont think the tank at ranch would work really because its hour long drive and the perch/turtles/catfish would eat em up im sure... so meh

I'm not a big fan of feeding fish to other fish..

but feeding them to an oscar makes more sense then just killing them for no reason..

At least they're serving as food for the oscar.

Are you kidding me? That's what fish do. Eat other fish. That's a good idea, actually, and what I was going to do with the excess fry when I start breeding a cichlid.

Convicts are probably one of the best feeders. You raise them yourself and this way you can guarentee that they wont transmit diseases. I also use convicts as feeders.

Don't forget to feed the fry for maximum nutritional value- vegetable flakes would probably be a good idea.

My oscar never was able to catch my convict fry. Are they in a bare tank? My convict fry were able to hide so effectively that the oscar eventually gave up on trying to eat them. Six of them are still in the tank with the oscar and the smallest of the six is still small enough for the oscar to eat, but it just won't try to catch it.

If you don't want the fry and have too many, why keep a male and female who are obviously going to keep producing lots of fry?

ya he can catch em, he is a hunter tho and he knows i want him to catch them so he wont dissapoint me. also i got a shovelnose so if the oscar doesnt eat em he will at night.

as for the pair of cons i love em to much to get rid of em and i like watching babies be raised

I agree that feeding your other stock the baby convicts is a greet idea! Free food for you and if fed properly can give great nutrition to your other fish. But along with it, make sure supplement vegetable material in the diet of your Oscar, as if you don't it can cause serious problems with his digestive tract, just as if we were eating a pure meat diet. I make sure I feed my JD peas atleast twice a week. Keeps him regular :good:
