Has anyone come across a DIY for converting a plug in air pump to a battery powered air pump?

Best you'll do is a small "inverter" to step up from, say, a car battery, to mains.... bit of a pain if you ask me ! Im sure you can buy battery pumps ?

i would have though they were DC too, to maintain a steady current in the line. someone go read the plug for the filter next time its off :p

I was on holiday in Florida last year and bought some bait to go fishing the fishing shop sold me a battery powered pump to keep the bait alive.

it wont work as the mains powered ones rely on the alternating current to cause the pulses that 'pump' the air...

Really? I would have thought they were DC pumps... interesting either way :)

Mains ones for use in UK are DEFINATLY AC ! - the run of the mill diaphram ones are just a coil of wire that attracts/repels a magent attached to the diaphragm !

i got a broken kids bubble tube the other day. the tube had cracked so it was no longer any good.

BUT, the air pump was fine and its only 12v. because its for kids use it has a small transformer that plugs into the mains but the air pump its self is only 12v. im keeping it for emergancy use, ill just use a car battery.
