Controlling fish terrorizing?

What do you DO when you see fish stressing other fish? I watch my tank way too much and recently donated two danios to a small lfs that promised to take good care of them, because the danios stressed all my peaceful fish by constantly chasing them! Now, my red platy has taken over their role and nips and terrorizes the other platy (he's black and yellow). It's very upsetting! The timid platy spends more time inside a little waterfall decoration than outside. When it's feeding time, he comes out to eat and the red platy won't let him eat--it's horrible! He watches so nervously for the red platy and spends more time running away from the red one, he barely eats. I know this can't be good. Water readings are all perfect. Any suggestions?

Bring the danios back but this time get five instead of two and then they might play amongst themselves instead of terrorising your platy.

Don't take my word for it though.

Hi Vanvran

I had a guppy that harrassed another guppy to death and then turned on the silver mollies - I ended up originally isolating him in a breeding net then transferring him to another small tank 12x12x10. I put him back into the tank and he immediately went back to attacking the mollies, I then put him in my biggest tank with 2 silver sharks, a gibbiceps catfish, 2 dwarf gouramis, 1 opaline gourami - he is leaving the other fish alone and actually tries to play along with the silver sharks - even though he cannot keep up with them which is quite amusing watching him try. :D

Best wishes

Phil

Throw em in the cage! I put fish like than in a guppy hatcher floating tank and after a few days they straiten up and begin to act civilized. I think they get the point. :sly: :fish:

flashfire, think I'll try that one. Right now, I separate him from the other platy during feeding time by keeping a net in the middle of the tank, the minute I pull the net out, he goes after my little platy.

Just remeber that they become less aggresive because they become stressed. The only way to make them peacefull is to scared the s**t out of them so that they become slightly 'egofragile'. This also sometimes is only temporary.

i had a female baloon molly once which killed 3 male mollys, 1 dwarf gourami, 3 glass catfish and 2 guppies.

a week after her last "hit" i found her head in the mouth of one of my Columbian sharks. the tail was in the other ones... :X

I think she learnt her lesson. :rip:

I'm having the same problem.

I got two zebra danios, and two other fish, which, i'd name, except i can't find any info on what I remember the name to be, so, now i'm confused about what it was in the first place.

I noticed the other fish were being chased around, found one eventually caught behind the filter, the other passed on a couple days later, I'm not sure what happened, it had been hiding a lot from the other fish.

Now one danio is hiding in a corner beneath some plant, while the other swims around the tank, and attacks it whenever it comes out.

I don't know if I should get rid of the one doing the attacking, or, if I get more fish and replace it, if another will take over the attacking roll.

I stared out with 3 danios and one of them was (still is) a right little s**t! :sly:
He would just swim around looking for the other two, the second he saw one he'd chase it raggid untill he lost sight of it and then he'd start searching again!
I got another danio and three neons, he still chases whatever comes his way but because theres a few more they all get a bit of a rest -_- :) Still sleep with one eye open thou I recon. lol

Hrm, that's a good idea. I might just get some more danio's first, this one seems to chase other types of fish first, and hopefully upgrade to a larger tank soon so I can put more in, and he becomes hopelessly outnumbered. :D

Dang teenage bullies! ;)
It could be, I don't know, I just thought it was odd, I read they were peaceful fish, good for community tanks. But this one is just psycho!

HELP. Sick tank. I had four Danios that the largest of, was a holy terror. I bought them at the local fish shop, and they were labeled zebra, and after I got them home, and started looking closer at them on the web, I realized I had Giant Danios. Although the largest was about 1 1/2", he would terrorize my Gold Gouramis and platies. The gourami were quite a bit bigger, but he didn't care. He and his 3 buddies would just take over, and hog all the food, and push everyone, except big blue (3" gourami). I finally took them to someone with a larger tank, and much larger fish. Looks like maybe I didn't get them out soon enough though, because one of the gold gourami got stressed, and then ick. Soon everybody had it, except big blue. (she's amazing) Now I don't know if I should ask here, but I treated the tank with ick med, for about a week and a half, but all the fish died, except big blue. I finally took her out of the tank. My question is, now that there are no fish in the tank, how long will it take the ick to go away? I have kept treating it even with no fish in it. No charcol filtration during ick treatment. When will it be safe again? I read that if I raised the temp slowly, and treated it would kill the ick on the bottom faster, by speeding up their cycle. I noticed the other day now, that there is a dirty scumie looking (like river foam) stuff floating at the top of tank now. What is that? When is the ick going to die, and when should I try more fish? Do I need to do a complete water change of tank, or just a partial, with vaccuming? I have kept the tank running and treated without fish for 3 days now. THANKS A MILLION. Hope I didn't put everything in the wrong place. The bully danios caught my attention though, and I think they are the cause of my whole mess. Oh, the other fish, a rosy barb also did not get affected, and is still doing ok in another tank. Why didn't he get sick too? Too fast maybe, and the danios never bothered him. Not as stressed??
