Contest Must be dead

I guess the contest must be dead or something, No activity that I have seen by the moderator in some time. Certainly not being run in accordance with the rules. 9/4/04 and we haven't seen Junes results, voted on Julys yet and August is all ready over.
So much for the STOTM OR TOTM OR and other competitions.

Was neat while it lasted.

It is unfair to the nominees, nominators, past winners and future winners. I know it is not a big deal but I do think the members deserve some updates on what is going on.
Winners of these months will not have long to celebrate before newer months winners replace them. That is too bad.

It's not a matter ob being impatient. There are rules that have been developed and adhered to by everyone and if he cannot perform his duties as low a priority as they may be then he needs to either give up the moderator position, find a temperary replacement or stop the competition. I never once heard him say or read a post tell us this was coming up or that he couldn't find a stand in.

Maybe I would have won Junes or July's competition who knows but there are others thinknig there is going to be one for August and September. We are what roughly 4 months behind now. There are some great looking tanks and fish that deserve to be awarded their recognition and the opportunity to be voted on.

I have no problem if I win great and if not that is ok too,. But don't encourage something you are not prepared to keep your commitment on.

Is he still feeding his fish, of course

From what I understand, the forum becomes a lot busier during the summer when students are not in school or people are enjoying summer vacations. Perhaps the xOTM competitions should only be held from September to April inclusive and can take a break during the summer since this seems to be the problem time.

If you read the link that Wuv posted it will show you why the judging of these contests are running behind. The Mod. responsible is Cian/Ken and he is busy with planning a wedding and preparing for MCSE exams.

While these contests are nice and everyone likes wants to add a banner to their signature we must remember that all mods. are volunteering their time here and sometimes there are more important things going on than judging pictures on a fish forum.

I think we need to give these people a break and appreciate all of the time that they volunteer to keep this site going.

If Cian doesnt have the time some one else should do it, I have already volunteered. But if William and the moderators want the competition to die a painfully slow death as it is currently doing then so be it, its there loss of a great aspect of the forums.

I agree they are volunteers but they still have a responsiblty to find some one to take over when they can't handle it for some reason. Little league coachs are volunteers and I doubt we would like it if the kids showed up but the coach didn't. Wouldn't be much of a league. Same here. Nearly all of us have responsibilites but we find ways to meet our commitments or find suitable substitutes to help during times where we are not as available. He isn't waisting his time he is waisting everyone elses who thinks this contest thing is still on going..
I think as moderator you owe it to the others to find a replacement, close the contest or area you are moderating or step down and give another party that can fulfill the volunteer position the opportunity to do so. Fair to all.
I realize they are busy and committed to many vastly more important things than this but it is part of the position they volunteered for to fill their shoes when they can't.

Thanks and sorry I don't see quite the sameas you do. Fortunately it is a pretty insignificant thing we are concerned about.

Yeah, I was thinking similar to bunjiweb, but then I thought to myself: why should I care? I mean, I enjoy making my small tanks look really nice, but whatever. The contest is so weak anyway. The way I see it:

ToTM/sToTM: Most of the entries (and even winners) have serious faults in lay-out and aquascaping design . . . not to mention visible equipment; or an even greater crime: plastic plants.

BOTM: The contest's about who can get lucky and get a photo of a great flare anyway right? I mean few of our winner's are top-notch bred bettas; at least 80% of our entries are store bought, and a big portion of the winner's are just great shots of average CT's . . .

FoTM: This contest is completely swamped anyway . . . who's the best fish? The cutest? The Biggest? The most flashy? The rarest? What???

Whatever, I can live without the contests . . .
