I would like to know what everyone uses for their bettas and how much the containers cost. or does anyone know of any nice 1/2 gal and up containers for like 10 or less?

i want more bettas but i only have 1 extra 1 gallon tank
advice appreciated

I have found that the Kritter Keepers at Walmart work really well - that is what the majority of my betta tanks are. They are a gallon and I think around $5. If you want a light and stuff, Walmart also had a 1 gallon Aquaview with light and underground filter for $10.

They sell one gallon containers with a divider at PetSmart here for $7.99. Almost bought one the other day but decided to get something a little bigger.

anyone know how big the topfin betta hexes at petsmart are? they come w/ like food gravel and a plant for 3.99 i was wondering how big they are cause thats a good deal

the betta hexes are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too small! do not put a betta in anyhting less than one gallon! its best to get a container that is long to give your betta swimming room. i use shoe box storage containers with holes poked in the tops.

i've got 1 in a dual hex, 1 in a 10gal, 2 in a 5 gal, 1 in a 1.8gal, and 1 in a 2gal.

the dual hex is cheap, but i got this before i knew about betta's. the 10 gal was about $1 at a garage sale. the 5gal was bout $7 at a local retail store. the 1.8 was a gift, and the 2gal i got too long ago to remember how much it was. (it's a plastic critter keeper)

about a dollar each. if you dont live somewhere where its sweltering hot, you need a reptile heat mat under the box though. (my room temp is about 85-90 here so therefore my water is about 80-85 degrees)
bettas like in the 78-84 range.

steppy-why on earth havent you taken it out of the hex?!?!?

no more tanks. and he is showing no signs of stress, sadness, or anything....he is actually content. i want to buy just one more tank for him, but can't....but i'll get him out one day :sly:

i actually had 2 betta's in there....with the divider. so they were living like that for about 6 months. but now one is in the 10 gal. he has twice as much room as he did....but like i said, i ain't got no where to put him....

steppy-im sure you have some larger container hangin around your house. go get a mixing bowl from your kitchen! he deserves better than a hex!

yes i believe my very first betta was in a hex sadly-those htings are about 1/5 gallon. :-(

the hexesaren't much better than the litlte containers that they came in. I love jac's idea of the shoe boxes. here, there are ubbermaid containers that are fiarly big (about 1G) that comes with a lid, so you can get a bunch of those.

the only thing stopping me from doing that is the heating problem. It gets quite cold here at night so i can't buy a heater for everyone. A mat might work, but how many containers can i put on the mat

*wishes she lived somewhere where it's boiling hot* :/

I also use the clear shoe boxes for my older juvies..They are 1.5 gal..and long..They are also stackable...sort of lock in place. I got mine at the Family Dollar store. $1.00 ea
I also found some in a bunch.. 4 for $3.00 ..good price for that much room.

hmmmm i'll ask mi madre to stop at linens n things or kmart or walmart -_- or dollar store or a yard sale or a flea market tomorrow

thanx guys

i think the aqua view hex's they sell are really good, they are one gallon and come with a light and undergravel filter (that I always take out, its useless) and are perfect for a betta. I dont reccomend using a lees small bettahex but I do have one of my bettas in one and he is happy, but he is also young and very small so he has plenty of room, and its about 1/3rd of a gallon, not 1/5th lol
