I have been fasting Sakana for a few days, but I obviously couldn't keep doing that, so I fed him freeze-dried blood worms for two days. He seemed to be doing fine, but I have also heard that too many freeze-dried foods can tear up their digestive tracts. So, I fed him just 3 of the Hikari baby pellets. I wake up this morning, and he's constipated again. :( I'm going to get some peas this afternoon to feed him, but I can't ONLY feed him peas. However, there is nowhere around where I live that sells live or frozen foods. Is it possible to get some frozen foods online? Then I can feed him frozen foods and peas. :)

Give it a try with the pellets and peas.
It might surprise you how well the peas flush out their systems.

Ideally, they shouldn't just live on live foods alone - but the pellets should also be fed.
Maybe try just giving him 1 or 2 pellets in the morning and 1 or 2 on the evening- then peas on a pretty regular basis..?

Same as bettamomma has said go with the peas while you can get some frozen foods, you might be best of hatching your own live foods if you can't get frozen.

Would it be too much to feed him pellets at night and a bit of pea every morning?

Also, I feel so bad for him... he just keeps laying on his side. I know it's because of the constipation, because he did this same thing the last two times. Is there anything besides peas that will get things moving a little faster? I'm going to Wal-Mart after class today to get the peas... anything else I can get for him?

Well daphnia is good for digesting the food, some green cabbage might get things moving as well.

It's a water flea.

Peas are your best bet.
You'll be amazed at how fast they help.

Daphnia is a food that you'll find at fish stores that also aids in getting things moving on thru - I have it in powder form - my fish love to chase after the little particles of powder.

Get the peas and give them a try. They'll help :)

Well, I was DEFINITELY going to try the peas, but I didn't know if there was anything in addition to the peas that could help. :)

That's where I got my Daphnia, so hopefully. I also found that feeding a strictly herbivore pellet - I used BioBlend Herbivore pellets - works just about as good as a pea. Must be all that fiber. The bettas ate it readily since it looks like a nice, meaty pellet but - hah! tricked him - laxative incognito.

You can get frozen Daphnia in most any pet store that has frozen fish food. It's distributed by Hikari, under the Bio-Pure label.

I just thought of something: Would Lima Beans work? I already have those...

You could always blanch one and let him try it. No guarantees on whether or not he'll like it.

Well, it would definitely be a short-term solution... I know he LOVES his peas. :) It would only be a one time thing, just to give me time to get to the store.
