Hi folks, I've had this problem for quite some time now, probably looking at a month and a half to two months, My water is pretty much lime green about 48 hours after a water change, it makes no odds how little or much water is changed, my water is clear after it but within two days its turning green again. At first I thought it was my live plants so I took them out it changed nothing, my internal filter ended up packing in so I replaced it with an enheim internal filter which solved nothing. I have tried more sunlight and leaving the lights off (I was adviced to try both from different sources) and neither of which made a difference, I took a last ditch effort at using an algae killer from my local fish shop and it had no effect, any ideas would be much appreciated!

How old is the tank?
Is it cycled properly?
What are the water stats?
How big is the tank?
How heavily stocked is it?
Is there any sunlight on the tank?
How long are the lights on for per a day?

If you can answer these questions, we'll be able to give you a hand.

The tanks been set up since April, I am at work just now so I can't get you stats at the moment, but usually my NO2 levels are low, there is no chlorine in the tank, my PH sits around 6.2-6.4 I think usually. The temperature of my tank is set at 25/26 degree's (I'll have to double check) It's a 90L tank, I have six neon tetra's 2 juvenial bala sharks two angel fish and a plec the tanks in a well lit room but I have the blinds shut on the window to stop direct sunlight getting on to it (sun shines through window most of the day) my lights are on for 8-10 hours a day

Heheh, I just noticed that we have almost the same screen name! You've been here a little longer than I have but I didn't copy your name, honestly!! It's just one which I use around the internet on various forums. Anyway, even more of a coincidence that you seem to be having the same problem as me with your tank too. I have a thread going in this forum entitled "Fish Dying One By One" and have received some good advice in response to that. You might like to take a look.

Good luck with clearing the green water.

Haha good choice, thanks for the top tip, I'll have a read through and give some of the options a try! My tank ends up exactly like yours looks after five days or so..

also that tank is overstocked or will be the bala's will need much more room

When the filter packed in did you transfer the media from the old filter?

My balas are only about an inch and a half to 2 inches in length atm... I'll probably get a larger tank in the near future when the time comes that I require one..

I ended up buying a different brand of filter, the old one was a fluval U2, when I got the new filter I soaked the media in some tank water (did a water change) in the hope that it would help the filter cope..
