Dont have loads of bogwood, around about 4-5kg of it and it has been fully submerged for months now so shouldnt still be leaching. And all of my fish are accounted for, just the seemingly healthy Molly that died in the night :'( the last death I had was a few weeks ago, a neon whose scales seemed to flake off overnight and was dead the following day.

My nitrate has never been very low, I got the kit a few months ago and it has always read between 10-20, it hit 80 around 2 weeks ago so I have been doing regular large water changes since. I do gravel vacuuming everytime I clean the tank. I have also reduced the amount I feed to see if that makes a difference.

I have just had a thought.. I had quite a grubby abundance of black brush algae up until about 2 weeks ago where I spent about an hour scrubbing it all off, and scratching it off the glass with my nails. Could this have contributed?
It is growing back again now :'(

Im not a crazy lady btw ;-) I just have a picture in my head of some crazy lady scratching the inside of a fish tank now to get rid of some horrid algae lol ;-)

I use Matrix on both my tanks with great success; but the tank I use Purigen on always has shockingly low nitrates, it actually worries me and my plants aren't looking great but I hate to remove whatever that is working because I too have Bolivian Rams (awesome community cichlids) in them and I know they are pretty sensitive to water quality.
