Hey all,
Just curious as to what this pleco is as I have seen it at a fish store by me, and I was wondering what ID it was?
When my partner gets in I will be able to post a picture, although not clear im afraid :(

The best description I can give is:
Black and white in colour.
white stripes on tail, dorsal fin and side fins.. black and white stripes down face. On body its also striped but more blotchy and a few white spot patterns that the back stripes have formed. Then back stripes on the body are thicker than the white stripes. the white spot (3 of that I can see from one side) are on top of its head, by its dorsal fin, and just before the tail flairs.

I know i will need to post this pic asap for any proper look into its ID but does anyone have any ideas from the description?
Thanks to anyone who may be able to help, i'm puzzled!!! lol..

Sorry about the quality , but here it is:

I am hoping to go back to the fish store tomorrow and would love some replies of what it could be?
Thanks all!!

Nice - probably an hypancistrus but not gonna stick my neck out with a guess as to which, price could be a clue - what's it going for?

Well its saying its a red seam pleco??? Totally doesn't sound like it would be?? Don't even know if there is one called that or similar?
So I know they wont have any idea either lol.. Its 29.99... I know these black and white ones can be tricky to ID, so i'll wait and see, thanks for the ideas though. :good: .. Toughy isnt it

They are one of the peckoltia species that get to around 4-5" we sell them at work under the name butterfly peckoltia,
I'll post the L number as soon as i recall what it is, Lol

Actually after looking on planet catfish i think they may not be peckoltias but Dekeyseria brachyura

are the ones you mean L168?? I do think they show very strong similarities to the pictures :) So may well be one of those haha. Feel free to add anymore suggestions, i think i will be getting him tomorrow if my bank balance allows it lol..

Its not laterally compressed enough to be L168, its 100% a Hypan but they are a pig to id.

L129, L270, L333 spring to mind

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I agree that they are so hard to ID, I wish they were easier to ID!! lol..
My next question would be .. is £29.99 a reasonable price to pay for the hypan variety?? He/She is gorgeous so it wouldn't matter to me really as I have grown very attached to the little fellow, but as a price guide would I be paying the normal price for him, as the ID they gave is way off?? So they really are just selling him at that price as he is unique to their stock I would think??

is it a flash pleco

£29.99 seems a bit too much but plecs tend to be more expensive than other fish anyway, if you like it get it!! lol

The flash pleco stripes always seem to be acurate and straight, whereas this little fellows ones are not as tidy  I did think it could be a possibility of being a flash pleco but the stripes really arn't the same?? I probably will get him if hes still there, but wanted a guide price on what I would normally expect to pay, as may consider getting one more in the future ;)

Simonas, it's a Hypan, no question...

30 quid is perhaps a little high but not overly so
