Am looking to connect a UV steriliser (Vecton 2) to my setup and just have one problem to overcome... I cannot work out how to connect the hose from the filter (Fluval 405) to the hosetails on the UV.

For anyone who is not familiar with the hose connectors on this UV unit, it has 4 different size hose fittings on the same piece of plastic hosetail (1/2", 3/4", 1" & 1 1/4"). You have to cut of all of the smaller hose fittings that are not being used to allow for maximum water flow.

The best fitting I could see for the Fluval hoses would be to use the 2nd step (3/4") as the 1/2" is way too small and would just give as many problems trying to keep the connection watertight as well as restricting the water flow.

Problem is, is that the hose for the Fluval has an outer diameter of approximatly 3/4" and there is no way that I can force it to fit the hosetail. I have tried several different methods of persuading the hose to it with some spare hose but no luck.

Any suggestions???

Cant help but would love to know the answer. This is one of the main reasons I have switch from Fluvals to Eheim filters because of the crappy fluval tubes. I have looked for replacement tubes but could not find any.

Wait, if the OD of the fluval is 3/4" and the Vectron has a 3/4" barb, why not just get 3/4" tubing and clamps?

Thanks for the suggestion SkiFletch, the only trouble is... I'm not too sure if I know what you mean with tubing and clamps, but I think that might be a similar idea to what I had thought up since posting...

Get a short piece of flexible pipe (hosepipe style) with an internal diameter of 3/4", silicon one end to the Fluval pipework and fasten the other end over the hosetail (barb) with a jubilee clip (the same kind of metal ring that hold hoses in place on car engines)

Will this work or can someone spot a flaw in my idea? (Or is this just what SkiFletch was suggesting in a much more efficient way? )

Yeah, that's what I meant :) You might want to clamp the end to the fluval too ;)

In the UK these are called Jubilee Clips but not sure their real name:

This is also a Vecton2

Ah yeah that's the ticket :D

We call them wormdrive clamps here in the States

Thanks for the help and suggestions folks :good: - I finally managed to get it installed over the weekend and so far I still have all the water in the tank!!!

For anyone else who is considering connecting an external Fluval to a UV, I will make some time this week to produce an in-depth post about the exact method I used (and if there is still any water left in the tank!!!).
