I have a beautiful male betta who has started building a bubble nest.

I have NO female bettas in this tank but my male betta is chasing and displaying to a black molly!

Is it possible for these two species to breed and if so what would be the outcome?

No they won't breed. The only possibility would be artificial insemination. Fish won't naturally hybridise unless they are very similar in genetic make up. Mollies and betta's are quite different. :)

Hey Joy, welcome aboard, from one newie to another :)

William has it nailed in that the two wont breed. Most all hybrids have been induced by human intervention anyway. Like all animals, fighters can get clucky, even the males. Have you been feeding him bloodworms? These are excellent for bringing them, & many other fish for that matter, into breeding condition. Your male is just looking for a substitute for the lack of a female.

If you do not wish to breed him, that is fine, you should not consider it at all cruel to stop him from procreating, it'll pass for him. However, if you do, & are uncertain how to, theres always the odd article floating around cyberspace about breeding fighters, which usually isnt especially challenging.
