I just got my first betta and he's all set up in his home and doing well. There's only one problem: every source I go to has a different opinion on how much to feed them. When I cared for a friends betta she had me feed him twice a week, which seemed like very little food, but he had survived over a year and I didn't want to mess with his schedule. The pet store I got him at recommends feeding twice a day, but the food container said several times a day which seems a bit excessive. I've also heard once a day and every other day. Help!

fish can last up to 10 days without food. in the wild they scavenge for food. some day's there is some some days theres not.

i feed my fish once every 3 days ~ but its down to you how often you feed

I feed my Betta's Breakfast, Dinner and Tea which consists of 1 Hakari Betta Gold Pellet so each Betta gets 3 pellets per day, then on sunday they get a rest day without food

Thank you so much everyone! So it's ok to skip a day every once in a while? I figure I feed him about three pellets once a day. He's the only fish in his tank, so I don't have to worry about competition. Thanks again!

It's good to skip a day here and there. Most fish wouldn't eat every day in the wild, so it's natural and better for their long term health

3 pellets a day with the odd rest day sounds pretty good to me - my betta usually get's something similar, though I also give him the occasional bit of pea and some freeze-dried bloodworms too (which he loves and it can be rather funny to watch him 'play' with his pea too)

i feed my fish flakes in the morning and 3 pellets when i get home from work.
my fish are very active and have 5 or 10 gal tanks, though.


betta can go about 2 weeks with no food.

my Betta lives in a 10 gallon tank, and seems to be doing wellon his new diet!
