We lost one of our chins today, scamps.
All good this morning, jumping around & playing in his wheel with a half grape as a treat. Noticed around 3pm that he was laying in a funny position so went to check & found he was dead. Completely gobsmacked & missus very tearful.

We've had him for 2 years.

He's the one on the left

Sorry to hear you have lost one of your chins :(

Has it been hot where you are today?I havent been letting any of these out for exercise and all wheels have been removed due to the heat, also i have had the air con on 24/7

:rip: Scamps.... what a sweet little face....

Sounds like he was very lucky to live with such a caring family!

Took the wheel out, haven't got aircon but have had all windows patio door open & fans running. Although unfortunately the windows have to be shut when at work etc as downstairs location. The heat is the only thing we can put it down too although it wasn't as hot yesterday as it has been.

This heat doesnt do the poor things any good :/
It has cooled down here aswell but the paper said it is going to be even hotter in August :S

click on the chinchillas4life banner below and there is some good tips for keeping chins cool

We are currently using terracota saucers to keep the other one cool swapping them around every few hours from the freezer. They seem to be doing the trick as he is sitting on them regularly. We have also ordered one of those granite chin-chillers. We are going to adopt some of the ideas on your site too. A few months ago we invested in a huge aviary style cage too. My missus is still upset. We look at the cage expecting scamps to be their and then realising he's not. We will get another to keep hime company but it's still shocking as he was running & playing just a few hours earlier. It's a pity you are so far away as would like to adopt a rescue as seems the right thing to do. Do you know of any rescues in the essex/sufflok area?

Just made a donation to your work in scamps memory.

RIP scamps
