I am getting ready to upgrade in tank size and would like to add more fish when the time is right. I currenttly have Cherry Barbs, Tiger Barbs, Albino rainbow shark, albino cory cat, albino Brislenose, X-Ray Tetra, betta, and Dwarf frogs. I am wanting to go at least 55 gal in Size. I have 27 fish now and they are all still small/young. I want to have live plants in this tank as the only plants that I have, really don't like plastic plants at all. I am open to all idea's and suggestions with everything from filters and the whole nine yards. It has been years since I had a tank and alot has changed. Thanks.

For filters, I would go with a trickle filter, that is if you are going to get a 55 gallon. If you do not want to go with a trickle filter, I would highly recommend the 70 gallon Aqua Clear Power Filter! They work wonders!

OK that's a new one for me a Trickle Filter? I know under gravel and HOB's, is it the same as an HOB or different?

It is different than a traditional HOB filter. A trickle filter actually goes under the aquarium in the stand. These are really nice because there is a large area for the beneficial bacteria to grow, and in the sump part of the filter you can add heaters and other stuff. That way you dont have to put the heater in the tank. Also, A trickle filter is best used for bigger tanks, I just find them neat and thought I would tell you about it. You can do some research about it or start a thread on here if you wanted to get more input about the filter. However, if you dont want to mess with that kind of filter setup; like I said before, I would highly recommend the 70 gallon Aqua Clear Power Filter for a 55 gallon! You will not be disappointed! Aqua Clear also makes 110 gallon filters as well.
