ive done some research into what fish i can keep in my 180 UK Litre (48 US gallon), hard/alkaline water tank.
can anyone see a problem with the fish suggested below??

sailfin mollies x5
rainbowfish x5
danios x5
cory x3
guppy x4
pearl gourami x2
platy x4

oops its actually 20 US gallons

Yes that is way to many. Maybe you can do this no gouramis as they most likly won't get along with smaller fish. Maybe 2 sailfin mollies,2 rainbow fish, 3 danios, 3 cories, 2 guppies, no gouramis, 2 platys or cut some of the fish off as you should only have maybe 10 fish at the most in a 20g tank.

What I'd personally do, is pick one of the schooling fish, either the Danios or the Rainbows. Then get about 6 of those.

Then pick one Livebearer, probably either the Platies or the Guppies (Guppies would be a no-no if you got the Danios, as they will shred the Guppy's tails) , as Sailfin Mollies will get a little too big for that tank, and could be crammed in and therefore be more aggressive. Also, be aware Livebearers produce a LOT of fry, though most likely some will get eaten especially if you get the Danios. Livebearers are also best kept 2-3 females per male. If you want 5, you'd need 1 male and 4 females. :) I'd personally go for a trio though.

Then the Cories will be fine, maybe upgrade their school to more, about 5 or so.

And then possibly go for a smaller Gourami, like a Dwarf Gourami?

It's all up to you, of course, but the list of fish you have is going to be too much for your tank. Sorry.

Best of luck with your tank though! I assume it is cycled and stable, correct? :)

Thought that was part of his sig, whoops :*)

maybe i should research my tank size first!

it is a juwel rio 180 which is 48 US Gallons.....!

sorry

hes rite it is 48 us gals wich is fine for wat he wants just replace the guppys for say 6 or 7 neon tetras or something of similar size as the danios will rip the guppys fins

Okay...let me re-write my post now that's it a 48 gallon! :p

First of all, I wouldn't get 5 Sailfin Mollies. You'd have to get 4 females and a male, and that's going to give you a lot of fry. I'd personally got for a trio there, as they do get pretty big. (6")

The Rainbowfish will be okay, maybe increase their school to a few more, same with the Danios. Also, I'd get more Cories, since they also love being in schools.

I'd skip the Guppies with the Danios, since the Guppy's tail will most likely get shredded.

Pearl Gouramis should be okay, they are pretty good community fish. What sexes were you thinking of?

Platies should be okay too. 4 would have to be 1 male, 3 females. :)

The only thing I am worried about, is the Mollies and the salt factor. Mollies usually need salt in their water, but Cories cannot handle it. Could you possibly find out how the Sailfins were raised? I.e. Totally fresh, 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons, etc. :)

thanks for the info guys, i'll take on board what you said Annastasia, and get more cory's etc

thanks!
