gesh, that is a lovely fish, but as they get to 60cm or more and need a minimum of 800L tank, not for most. reviewing some related web pages, people seem split, some say their BS is placid, some almost timid. others say they are killers! guess like most creatures they all have different personality's.

Is this the black shark or red-tailed black shark or even the rainbow shark? All three are sometimes interchanged with the same name and the black shark is a much different animal to the other two in size if nothing else.

Agreed.

on some sites its called Labeo chrysophekadion but most just call it the black shark grews about 2 foot that or arownd that sort of thing .....oh its not the red-tailed black shark or even the rainbow shark

Large cichlids, Ive got a Red Devil, a Jack Dempsey, and other like tempered cichlids in with my black shark. Large agressive cichlids are your best bet with a black shark.

Large agressive cichlids??i would have thort some thing thats not agressive would be better?.......i mean they would attack each other .............videos of agressive fish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1ZraWOgkNY

<Mod edit> I have removed the second link. The first is not overly graphic but the second is a small fish being dropped into a tank of large fish. This is live feeding video. It may be tolerated on other parts of the board but I will not have it in here. Since many members seem to delight in posting links to vicious content - the whole concept of allowing youtube links is under discussion.

I have one thats been kicking around for several years. Last of a tank started almost 10 years ago. He lived well with giant Gouramis (a little grumping at each other), a clown knife, plecos, an ornate bitcer, oscars, and something else I can't remember at the moment. and has recently survived the transition to african ciclids.. He's only 12-14" and hasn't grown (that I've noticed) in years..

hmmm well after reading this i think i may go with the Jack Dempsey they look nice and i think its colors will look good cuz the black shark is just a deep black im still a bit worryed about how agressive the shark and it will be together i have never had realy agressive fish befor well apart from the shark but the rest of his tank mates pose no thret to him so he dose not get very agressive rownd them oh and how can you tell if its a fight you should worry about or a fight thats okay and wont keep happening ??

No doubt your shark will dominate the dempsey but I think they will make good tankmates:)

thats good to no ...saw on a web site where it said Jack Dempsey cichlid will always claim its own territory and defend this part of the aquarium ......is that true?heres the web site http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/cichlid/jackdempsey.php it looks like other info on there is right but i no theres lots of sites out there that do look right and are not ... i only have what i herd in the posts here realy to go on that i trust but i will probly try to use info from that site like it says The recommended temperature range for a Jack Dempsey cichlid is 72-86° F (22-30° C), but many aquarists make sure that the temperature never goes above 78° F (25.5 degrees C) since warm water can increase the aggressiveness in some Jack Dempsey cichlids..........so im intrested to no if i can trust the info
