Compatibility Question

I've rehomed my JD.

I have a question about my "Convicts". Do they get bumps on their head? My largest one has a protruding lump that would be comparable to something an adult Flowerhorn would have. I know it's not a Flowerhorn...just comparing bumps. Like I said, it was sold to me as a baby Parrot. Could it be some sort of odd hybrid? If the largest one is, they all are because they were all bought as fry from the same place.

Typically male cichlids get nuchal humps as they mature/take dominance (though females can get them too). On convicts its a relatively small hump, compared to other fish, but still noticable.

If the hump is extreme then its possible to be a hybrid, as cons don't tend to get massive humps, a picture would help.

The 75g tank you have is just big enough for 1 flowerhorn cichlid.

The flowerhorns will start killing off all the other fish soon as they get settled in and start to mature. In a couple months the convicts will most likely be the first ones to be killed because they will be the more aggressive ones and not tending to back down from the flowerhorn.

I hate to say it but that tank will be a bloodbath in the not too distant future.

I'm trying to find a home for 3 Convicts and either the Flowerhorns or Oscars (who are in their own 75 gal) If I can get rid of the Oscars, I'll put the Flowerhorns in that tank.

Glad you didn't think I was piling on. You certainly have your hands full and are trying to get the best solution. I respect that.

In most cases in a 75g tank and 2 flowerhorns they will fight until one is dead. They are a solo fish or at least like larger territories than most of us as aquarists can give them.

Thanks...I know even the 75 gal won't be a permanent solution for the Flowerhorns. But like I said, they're only a couple inches big right now...and I know they grow fast but it's a better solution than just leaving things the way they are. I have someone interested in one of the Flowerhorns and they have an 80 gal...I'm just waiting to hear back if and what kind of fish they have in it. I've had a lot of interest around here about the Flowerhorns but I keep telling people I'm not going to let them go into just any old tank. So in that case, I know I'm going to be very limited with my choices

Oh well...personally, I'd rather rehome the Oscars and keep the Flowerhorns for now. Everyone has Oscars...not too many people have Flowerhorns. Although, I think they fugly fish when they get big. Right now, they just look like my Firemouth.

Does the video work? Are those white fish Convicts with the large bump that's growing on the biggest ones head?

I don't know much about convicts, but the video of the convict with the lump on his head looks a lot like my parrot cichlid.

she has a small lump on her forehead. Probably about the size of the convict's in that video.

I think I may buy a few convicts for my 55 gallon.

I've managed to empty my 2nd 75 gal tank (had a JD and 2 Oscars) so it was cleaned out last night and is set up right now. Just waiting a few days then the 2 Flowerhorns are going into it. I'm also trying to find homes for 3 of my 4 white mystery fish. Whatever they are, I don't really want to breed them. Someone said they could be Red Devils? Geez...I don't know anymore lol

Don't parrots have more of a big humpback? His bump has doubled in size since that video lol He actually looks kinda funny now...

I may only be 11 but, my dad has lots of experience. I would suggest barriers. The flower horns will be aggresive but, a lone one would be the best solution. The convicts in the videos do look like my dads Red Devil. It is not as big as a Red Devil ahould be at that age.

Well, the other day, I found new homes for both Flowerhorns.

SOOO...all I have left in the one 75 gal is 2 Green Sevs, 2 Corys, a Firemouth and the largest of the white "whatevertheyare" fish lol

My other 75 gal has 2 tiny Comets (were feeder fish) and a Blue Lobster.

So far, so good. The Sevs and the white fish seem to be squabbling over territory, but it's nothing huge or nasty thankfully.
