Community Tank - Ich - What To Do?

sorry for your loss but if the others are picking up then thats a great thing, well done :good:

I am treating my tank with protozin but i had to remove my snails which are now in a bucket of tank water. My corys are fine with the med.

misscosmo if you have removed your snails from a tank with disease hen as soon as they are put back in the tank may well get the trouble back as they still carry diseases although they arent effected by things like ich, so beware!

I heard that snails can carry the disease so i will probably 1/2 dose the bucket for a few days before they go back in.

Hi Guys. I just wanted to add a few pointers, My community platy tank had Ich symptoms for 3 weeks. after the spots had gone they were still flicking etc. anywys, take all ornaments out of the tank, firstly they harbour the ich, if the tormont of the ich lands on the decor, the fish can pick it up. so less decs theless chance of re infection.
secondly ich treatment turns everything blue.
ich can survive in temperatures uo to 85 so 86 is required to completely speed up the cycle and kill the free swimming animals . good luck. i usede every treatment i could, and lost all my fish, even begun having epileptic fits in the end and had to be kulled.
anyway. keep the temps up for a minimum of 10 days, and make sure you redose each 25% refill after the waterchange, or you will dilute the treatment
lastly, take ALL carbon based filter media ( sponge and fibers) from the filter as they remove the treatments in an hour of adding them.
and make sure the decor has dried out and dioesnt go back in the tank for 10 days after being dry as tormonts cant survive that long out of water

good luck all

2nd female platy died 2 days ago. Thought she was getting better, but turned for the worse. Those two were the newest additions, thus they must've brought the Ich in with them. The tank I got them from looked pretty healthy too. I made sure to check it out. Oh well. Continuing treatment. Everyone else looks pretty happy so far....no clamped fins, snails still growing like mad....cories ok, false SAE....still eating everything in sight.

ill just throw this out there i have been using salt in my tank at about half the recommended dose for my tank size, I have 2 spotted corys and 1 leopard as well as three happy snails :) The store that i purchased them from also used salt in their tanks. my platys started to get the ick and it cleared up in a night with the salt. Best Wishes -Bridget

Well you could have put in interpet white spot which will after less then a week will kill all the ich and less stress.
After that I would put in a general tonic which will kill every disease(fungus, fin rot, bacteria, parasites etc) and keep it at a minimum.

AIR BUSA 1...

Good to know AKGrown, that 1/2 dose of salt didn't effect the cories or snails too much. I'll have to keep that in mind next time 'round.
Pickings for meds are pretty slim around where i am, airbusa1. My choices for ich treatment consisted of Jungle's ich guard and API super ick cure. The rest of the meds were more fungal, like maracyn, pimafix (which I scooped up as well, just in case), etc. I didn't see any interpet. The infected two platies have been gone for over a week, and all traces of white spot from the others gone for over 6 days, so I stopped dosing today, and started temp drop, as the cories have been sufacing more frequently, and I'm worried the 02 levels are getting low.
Fingers crossed i got it all.
