I bought a Plec as many have told me 'No tank is complete without a plec' 'You have to get a plec...its the law' 'Plecs keep the tank clean'

I got it today...and the floor is covered.

It has produced more poo in around 8 hours than my entire fish tank has done since I've had it. (Little over a month)

Is there anyway to stop this or am I going to have to syphon the tank everyday? :X

Welcome to the world of big plecs! Perfectly normal I'm afraid, all plecs are notorious poo machines and commons are the worst.Mine festoons the tank with 20cm streamers of poo sometimes! Forget spotless tanks. Weekly gravel vaccum - and filter sponge rinsing - is the norm with me and most other owners of large plecs. I sometimes scoop extra large bits of poo with a net when I have the time. Mind you, I love my plecsand wouldn;t give them up for anything. Great fish to own and worth the effort in tank cleaning, though sometimes I do feel sory for their tank mates - must be like sharing a flat with a live pig!

dont worry over time he will pace himself my pleco did this when we first had him he was ever so mad for the algea on the substrate once he felt at home found his living quarters the poo will be centred around it. or atleats mine does he goes out during the night eats all he can then comes back to his quarters and poo all around it its easy for me just to syphon it up. oh and my plec goes bonkers for a bit of cockel dont know about any one elses, but mine goes ballistick as soon as it put some in he comes out picks it up carrys it off home and repeats it till he collects it all i havent found any left overs and he still cleans my tank for me.
