Hi everyone.

I've got a friend who has what must only be around a 80ltr tank that has a 8' common plec in and I was considering giving him a better home in my RIO 240.

I have a BN trio that breed like mad and I’m conscience that I don't want to upset the balance I currently have in my tank.

I expect the common Plec will just hide in a dark place as it currently has no room and so I expect it’s stunted already.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Thanks.

Well, if it's that big and makes a dash for BN eggs, it will certainly be interesting to watch.

Ok....... Thanks for you're input.

Anyone with some knowledge wish to join in?

imo you wont have a problem introducing him into the tank but beens he will be bigger than the BN's he may bully himself into there breeding caves so mite upset the balance alittle i guess you could rearange the tank just before adding him so they can all find new terrortaory but again may well postpone the breeding of the BN's for a while but im sure they will restart when settle ....also just watch that the common doesnt try get in the males caves after they spawn could cause a big fight with 1 getting hurt

Hi - I dont know much about it, except that I rescued 2 commons over a year ago from really bad conditions - very similar to what you are describing except these 2 were also in with goldfish

Within 2/3 weeks they were fighting like mad and I had to rehome one - so dont assume that he will be 'grateful' and therefore calm and tolerant, my two worked on the theory of 'now we've got a decent environment to fight over we'd better get on and fight'

ETA - link to topic when I wasnt sure whet was going on http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=210786&hl=

i have kept a common with my breedig pair of BNs in the past, the common was a good 3 times the size of the male and she never caused them or the fry any trouble, they all got on fine
