Common Looking Plec That Stays Small

how fast to commons grow? i have a pair that i can only assume are commons. (sold to me when i didn't know better) they must be a year old now, and still small (aprox 10cm) but did spend the first 8 months of their lives in a BiOrb

I think it varies on a few things. Like feeding, quality of water and water changes. My sailfin is about 10inches and I've had him for about 4 years. He didn't grow quick to start with but I noticed the most growth started when I got more serious and started doing weekly water changes.

don't think so, any idea on what size tank he came from?

125litre. He's now in a 200litre. that's why I'm concerned about him growing anymore.
Yes you can get dwarf/stunted common plecs. Mine is barely 8inches including tail and I was told she was 8 years old when I got her. Mind you she was in dirty water for a long time and possibly undernourished too with previous owner. She's been in clean water and very well fed now since Feb (8 months) and hasn't grown at all. I also have some stunted goldfish I rescued and again the majority that were a few years old when I rescued them haven't grown even in a 4ft tank though a couple of the younger ones have grown a little.

Defo isn't a bn plec. It's similar makings to my big sailfin. I'll try get a photo up later on.
ah it might be a rusty plec they dont get that big

Have you got one that big? The biggest one I have ever seen is my 6" one who I've had for two years now and he grew from 4". The (suspected) female maxed out at 5". They used to be most tanks I worked with and on average they were about 5".

No but my LFS has two around 8" and the shop owner said they get to 10" so...

Hmm.. maybe I should remeasure mine.. what size tank are they in? Do you know how old they are? How often are they fed?
