Common Lfs Pangasius

My LFS has a load of Pangasius (don't know the specific species) and I'm quite taken with them. My thought is maybe to swap my Platys and Molly.


I'm presuming that they are one of the smaller Pangasius species, even so I am at a loss as to identify them exactly.


They are mainly a silvery white colour with black/grey markings. They are about 3" long overall at present.


I'll try and get some more info and pics tomorrow. In the mean time, any ideas on how big they might eventually get?

Pangasius are a species i've always found are best avoided, unless you have some kind of lake to keep them in.

I *believe* that the usual species is hypophthalmus/sutchi- as found here http/www.fishbase.com/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=14154

Trouble is, nobody really bothers IDing them properly (not much point, plus it can be quite hard), so you've just got to make an educated guess most of the time.
