Sorry to leave you hanging, I haven't been using the forums much lately. Yes the brown stuff is diatoms and it is what you want to have for the addition of cleanup crew. Get yourself the list I suggested earlier in this thread and you'll be suprised at how quickly they get your algae under controll.
