Howdy all :)

Does anyone know anything about common algae hermits? Are they reef-safe and do they scavenge as well as pick off LR etc.

I've searched the board and google but can't get anything, they would look pretty cool with my red & blue legs but i wondered if they're safe?

Here's a link on them (Just got my Reinforcement Cleanup crew from here, Check out the prices!!!)

Here

I know the site says everything is fine but i'd like some backup

Cheers
Dan :)

I dont know anything about these crabs unfortunately :-(

Don't get them, they are fairly common and from the gulf of MExico, but they eat everything.

i dont know if they are.. but they appear strikingly similar to the ones in the gulf of mexico as mentioned. i encounter them everytime i go fishing in galveston texas. especially when i go crabbing. if i throw a chicken leg w rope in the water. these guys are all over it. they could just be cousins... but id take the safe bet. id stick withe blue and red legs.

Looks like some Clibanarius species...virescens maybe? My hermit IDing skills arn't all that up to snuff, but it looks a lot like my C. ransoni with a slightly different coloration. My ransonis have been pretty strict herbivores so far but diet is a big variable among Clibanarius species it seems.

Thanks guys :)

I'll just stick to red and blue legs although i'm hearing alot of bad things about their snail feasts :(
Ah well...

i have found the blues to be the worst at this. I have never had problems with my redlegs attacking snails.

I would add alot of empty shells as this will help take the pressure off hermits finding new homes that are already being used by snails.

Wells peeps...:S

My original order was:

1 turbo
3 astrae
6 cerith
4 nassarius
1 blueleg hermit

ended up with...

The world's biggest turbo!
3 Astralium sp (Are these guys okay in my nano?)
6 cerith (Happy with these)
1 nassarius and 3 empty nass shells :/
Then... a medium sized common algae hermit :S
3 tiny hermits which also have black legs...:S

I think they sent me the common algae hermits :(

I'll wait until lights so i can get a better look, i hope not :(

I've sent them an E-mail, will be interested to see what my reply is....

Well i got an E-mail back from them, They are going to refund me for 3 nassarius and the astrae's :)

I've found out that they are actually bluelegs and realised they chucked in another for free. The common algae was also chucked in for free but i've taken him out as he was already trying to munch on one of my existing Astrae. Notice to everyone, Do not use common algae hermits...They are creepy looking and are agressive look others have said

It was a problem with the site at that time which meant my order hadn't been logged and so i had to order over the phone and me brummie accent must've lost him

Very happy with their customer service and everything else arrived fine and well packaged. I'd highly reccomendThem
