Well, you CAN, but they are nitrate factories of the highest order... I personally wouldnt have a bio-wheel near my tank. I'd buy a piece of LR before I bought a bio wheel
I wouldn't have to use the bio-wheel , I am just looking at all the options since I don't know if I will be able to build a sump, but I am thinking if I cut out part of the back of the dresser and cut out the drawer and just put the outside part with the handle on I might be able to fit a 10 gallon sump on the bottom.
You could empty an external cannister filter and fill it with live rock, works in the same way as a sump in theory and the constant high flow through the cannister means the live rock really scrubbs the Nitrates out.
Well I like making things with my hands but I am limited to what type of tools I have since I am 14 but maybe I can borrow some from my neighbor, I am currently trying to convert my empty 2.5 gallon tank in a sump for my 29 gallonhere it is
Unfortunatly my parents aren't really liking the idea of a nano reef, and they have said no. Soo I willl have to wait until I get my own house in a long time and by then I will be able to get a large tank though. I have convinced them to let me keep it up and running though, that's the good news. I think I might be able to let me plant it though.
They don't need a reason. They are parents and parents are evil as well as detrimental to the fish keeping hobby in general whenever they are housed within close proximity to your person
Yup that's pretty much the reason, parents don't need reasons, there the boss and what they say goes, no questions asked. The main reason is the startup cost and the ongoing maintence, the electricity and water used. I'm working on letting me make it a planted tank since my dad likes plants a lot, majored in botany and he might like helping me maintain it, if not it wiill stay a fry tank.
