Its an amazing place.

I am in love with Egypt, have been for most of my life since I heard about pharoahs as a kid.

Reason we went when we did is that my mum is diagnosed with Terminal lung cancer, it was very much a memory holiday for us. We went at a point where she was still well enough to everything we wanted to do. We don't usually take my mum on holiday with us. As this was a big and special one she paid for everything from her retirement money after being a civil servant for 28 years.

Next time you go to Egypt, you need to dive in the Red Sea... And you better bring a camera :)

I went in the Red Sea at hurghada ski, Andrew went diving I had to snorkel, and I do have some pictures although they are not brilliant, were taken with a disposable underwater camera, I suppose you would like to see those!

Andrew just did the try dives, hes done three of those now. He plans to do the theory part through PADI online and then do the dives off Sharm el Sheikh next time we go.

Oh, so jealous. Red Sea is my 2nd place to go on my must-dive list. Hopefully gonna take care of the GBR on the honeymoon, if/when that ever happens ;)

Not sure if it was just the weather (Beginning of Rammadan, always windy apparently) but snorkelling off Hurghada was no where near as good as off Sharm el sheikh in 2002. Now I have heard that there has been more bleaching since then but there was a big difference. This is why when we go back we will go to Sharm again. Ras Mohammed national park is apparently THE place to snorkel and dive as it is a protected area.

I will put the photos up in a seperate thread. You can see for yourself

Thanks TI :). Either way, I'm sure those reefs are miles ahead of the best thing I can reach by car on my side of the pond...

Wow sorry to hear about your mom TigerIssey  I'm so glad you got to go and have a wonderful time with her :)

My mom had Thyroid Cancer and then Leukemia few years later so I know a bit about how feel.

Thanks KJ, it is difficult to believe she has cancer that bad with all she can do, its the cough that you can hear that is so distinctive even in another room, that reminds you. I guess she will be more unwell in the next few months whilst having the chemo, me being housebound does not help her or me, she may well end up coming here to stay for the first few days of each treatment, depends how the first one goes. It is annoying that I won't be able to shoot over to her at a moments notice like I did last time.

That holiday did give me some amazing memories, ones that will be with me for the rest of my life. For that I am truly thankful.

My mom would lay in her lazy boy recliner for most of the day and even sleep there at night. The whole thing really sucked (to put it very mildly). At least there are treatments and things they can do to help cure people these days.

That would be good for you and your mom to spend some time together. If I remember right you broke your leg...or arm? I read so much each day I can't remember which. It should be good company for the both of you. I think having someone around lifts the spirit in itself.

I got hit by a machine at work weighing 1/4 tonne, it cracked 4 teeth and has damaged sacro iliac joints at the base of my spine. I walk on crutches at the moment. It has taken the muscle in my right leg and cannot move it properley or bear weight on it. Following a medical a few weeks ago I am 30% disabled because of the accident, it sucks.

Cancer, a name that strikes fear in to everyone's heart - you certainly need your family around you  I was indeed very lucky, when I had cancer my family were my strength.

Chemo, well, I can't find words at the moment  but Tiger, your mum will need you from about the third or fourth day of her cycle :good: please feel free to pm me :good:
