I posted this in tropical chit-chat but I think this might be closer...

Hi Guys,

I want to add some more colour and life to my tank as I only have Mollies and Platy's. The water is brackish so they would need to survive in that.

I was thinking of Chilids, Discus or an Angel Fish but they're probably too big for my Livebearers...

Has anyone got some suggestions they would like to make?

Thanks heaps!

Anthony

Sorry man Angels, Discus and Cichlids are freshwater fish and can not be housed in brackish water.

You could add few Bumblebee Goby's, Knight Goby's in a tank that size. Otherwise your pretty limited.

You could rehome the mollies and making it a freshwater and have cichlids as the platies don't need brackish... :shifty:

mollys like low end brackish i think
i don't think platys are brackish at all

i second bumble bee gobies, they're so cute!

I'm just curious as to what kind of salt you are using for your brackish set-up. Are you using aquarium salt (conditioning salt) or
are you using true marine salt such as Instant Ocean?

Mollies can take any salt level up to full marine.

Yes, although they prefer low-level Brackish to mid-level Brackish.

For Mollies, it's irrelevant really, their tolerance for salt water means that they can "handle" any salt level and not be too fussed by it either way. Obviously, if you're planning to keep mollies at marine, adapt them quite slowly.

If you want colourful fish for a brackish tank, check out green chromides.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help, again!!

I got some Danios and Bumblebee Gobies on the weekend!

What other brackish fish can I add that won't eat my current fish (see signature)?

Thanks,

Anthony

I doubt that.

What was the point of making your tank brackish. Your initial stock would've been fine in hard freshwater.

Are you using a marine salt mix, or just aquarium salt?

Just for the mollies...

I'm using rock salt.. which is non-iodised.. the fishies seam to like it.

I've got to keep salt for the gobies don't I?

My temp is about 29 degrees with high airation...

should they be OK with no salt? I can do a big water change..
