Coldwater fish

Hi,

I got another reply from the Catfish section:

"the only true coldwater algae eater is the
hillstream loach Beaufortia kweichowensis a.k.a hong kong pleco a.k.a
butterfly loach a.k.a butterfly pleco a.k.a chinese pleco
or other hillstream loaches of the Gastromyzon species"

Would these be a bit safer than the Bristle nose. Just a bit worried It may die on me.

Hi,

I got another reply from the catfish section -

But I noticed on another post from someone on another subject that they had one with a fancy goldfish.

you can get those if you want but they mostly stay on the glass, my hong kong plec did occassionally go onto the ornaments but i never saw any of them on the plastic plants. i still think you would be ok with a bristlenose if the water is above 18c but its your choice, good luck with what you go with. :)

i used had Hillstream pleco in my coldwater tank and i didnt find it useful as after 1 month it died and then next i try the algae eater and algae eater is better off stayin with the tropical as they need the correct temperture face it what happen when your water get really cold during winter as u be struggleing to get the cold water tank to the correct temperture for Algae Eater and once died soon be takin the algae eater out hard as stiff like givin the poor sod an Viagra

so recently an while ago have mention this on my thread as not sure where about so i would try Garra Pingi Pingi sucker as they also look like algae eater and i still have it and it fine and well in my cold water tank

i only buy one to try it before i purchase any more if i like it and still alive well

why not try that just givin out advise but your choice of choosing :p

oh yeah nearly forgot this when u purchase any of these loaches be sure to buy Algae Wafer :D

Hi,

Just bought the themometer.
I had a look at the web and it mentioned that the Garra Pingi Pingi can be a bit aggresive.

Is it ok with your Shubunkins?

yes it ok with my shubunkin in fact my Garra wont even go near my Shubunkin because of the size of the fish plus Garra alway hide in my Cannon or behind my Powerhead depend where ever my will Garra, also my Garra have blend in well with my weather loaches

Just checked and my tank is just a 58 litre (about 12uk gallons and 14us gallons)

I take it this is too small to get an algae eater.

I checked the temperature last night/this morning and it was about 21-22c.

until you upgrade to a bigger tank then you wont be able to add any more fish without straining your filter.

ok.

Is it worth getting some bottle of algae eater or just do more water changes?

Thanks for all your help.

water changes wont get rid of the algae, you will still have to clean the glass and plants. you can get an algae magnet from your pet store for the glass and you could just leave the rest on the ornaments for the fish to browse on. i dont personally see a problem with a tank that has algae in it, it shows its balanced.
if you dont want any then a suppressant should do the trick, though be careful you dont over dose. i havent used any so i wouldnt know which to suggest.

in inches could you measure your tank for me? length, breadth and height.
you should have a pamphlet about your filter, could you look through it and find out what it says about turnover rate?

the dimensions are
24x12x13 inches

The filter is a Rena Filstar I1-I2

I found this on the fishandfins website:
Filstar 1
dim - 50x145x100
aquarium size - 10-50L 1 ft
outflow 220l/h 50Gph
comsumption 5w

for the filtar 2
dim - 50x180x100
aquarium size - 45-75L 2 ft
outflow 300l/h 70Gph
consumption 5W

Does it look like I need the bigger one?

thanks
