Hi there guys i am looking to get some cokatoo cichlids, but im thinking of putting them in a tank on their own. Just wondered if this is best for them or if they would prefer some dither fish?
I like the look of harlequins if they do need dither fish.
If not would 2f and 1m be ok together with maybe some shrimp?
Also what tank size if they are on their own would i need minimum??
Thanks guys
any help will do

Id say a 15 gallon (long is better). Harlequins would be fine with them as they swim quite high up and are good dithers. Hhmm shrimp, ive heard some people have kept shrimp with their Cokatoos with no problems but others say that there Cockatoos would gulp down a shrimp given the chance.

I'm not to sure about shrimps but a 24" x 12" tank would be best for a trio

any chance someone could quote a reasonable price for a pair...US dollars is preferable but I can convert. I was thinking of getting a pair today...until I saw the price tag =) If they are normally so expensive than I may get a pair anyway and attempt breeding them...hopefully a couple spawns will pay for the fish

you are looking at about $25 a pair for good fish. How much are they charging

$40 and I'm not sure it was for a pair it may have been for a single fish.. I think I'm going to look around a bit. thanks very much

I paid $19 for a pair of adults a few weeks back at an auction. That is the most I have ever paid for any fish, but I was already ahead selling angels.

A 15 gal (24 x 12) if a good size for most apistos. Harlequins would be a good dither for them but if you plan to breed, I would wait for someone who has experience in keeping them together to comment. They may eat your fry; I know that most small tetras are pretty good at wiping out a spawn and harlequins may do the same. Safe dithers for apistos are pencilfish and hatchetfish. Up here, the more common apistos (cacatuoides, borellii, agassizi) go for around $10-15 CDN each (if you can find them!) which is about $9-13 US these days.

yeah I think about 10-15g too, mine are fine with amano shrimp.

i got them for £1 each as juvis :p

Wow, I only paid a couple of quid for my juvi A. caciatores. Might be a good investment if mine breed too!
