Coffee

I'm in no way a coffee expert but just like what I like. What I don't like is Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts coffee. To me they are just bitter beyond any chance of me using. As to a place that does coffee I find McDonald's to be surprisingly god.

To be honest I even gave away my coffee maker as I just don't drink enough coffee to make a batch. I just use Folgers Classic Roast instant coffee. LOL! You will all now probably shun me but, if I want to relax with a hot drink it is likely to be a herbal tea with some honey. I WILL say that I DO like iced coffee now and then but, again, it is just freeze dried instant.
McDonald's does have a pretty decent coffee. I say that, yet as a Canadian I've got Timmies (Tim Hortons) coffee here, which is good too.

There should be no shunning for the instant coffee. If it's what you like, then that's what you like.

Actually this reminds me.

When I went to Toronto this summer we tried this little Cafe. Oh mannnn I'm so sad I don't have one down in my city because the iced coffee was sooooooo good. We got the "Sakura iced coffee" and it had actual cherry blossom petals in it at the bottom and it was just a really delicious coffee.

I'm not normally one to go to a Cafe for a coffee, but we made an exception on our trip because we stopped for a drink while walking around the city and it was so good we had to stop again there before we left.

Geez, you guys are bunch of coffee snobs, lol. I drink strong black drip of whatever kind my husband buys. He had to give up real coffee several years ago, but he still makes it for me every day. I want to feel like the enamel is coming off my teeth! I've never done sugar & gave up milk or cream many years ago...except on vacations. Then half & half is a treat, it's no wonder I gain vacation weight. Along with other holiday only treats. I do like coffee ice cream once in a while but it's not close to my idea of coffee.

I only tried Starbucks once on a long road trip & Duncan Doughnuts maybe twice. I don't see the appeal of either. For iced beverages, I prefer brewed tea, sometimes with a hint of sugar, no lemon...but not the "sweet tea" of the American South. OMG, could it be any sweeter? (gag)

The coffee grown in Jamaica is considered to be of an elite standard. It has a classic flavor; however, it is a very expensive grade of coffee. It has a rum like an aroma and a special refinement. The flavor can also be smooth and mellow. Jamaican coffee exports are highly regulated. Great coffee does not come cheap.
It’s priced at $40 to $50 per pound on amazon.

LOL, I'll save my tasting palette for red wines. Just a tiny bit of a snob there, ;) It sorta comes with the territory I live in. Like everything, the goal here for that is to find the "good stuff" at a price I'm willing to pay...Much lower than before retirement :) A treasure hunt!!

Yes, I've had really good, better coffees, but not at the prices they command. To each their own!

The coffee I am currently enjoying is a mix - half Costco/starbucks dark roast, and half Mexican dark roast I got from old friends, an Italian family who run a coffee roasting company in Ville LaSalle, Quebec. When I found them 25 years ago, I was riding my bike and smelled roasting, so I followed my nose to see if retail was involved, and discovered a small counter at the front of their large wholesale roasters. Originally, I became customer/friends with the father and mother, and now the sons are running it. It's an old fashioned Italian place, with a hockey player son and a Discus keeping one.

The Mexican coffee stands on its own. They were out of my favourite Costa Rican when I dropped by. I use the Costco stuff to stretch it out, as it is decent, but not the best. I'm a 9 hour drive from a refill!

Am I a coffee snob? It's recipes and ingredients - the only sort I'm really passionate about. I couldn't care less about barbecue or steak - you can prepare it anyway you want and I'll just watch. The moment you add syrups, spices or flavouring to coffee, I raise an eyebrow. That's snobby. But if you offer it to me, I'm just not into it. I don't put pineapple or peaches on pizza either.

We all have different things that matter. Coffee was crucial to me before the Starbucks marketing push, and long before any hipsters had been conceived. I noticed in Italy that my shared love of coffee with the Italian family in LaSalle. Maybe I could have been a coffee roaster. Or a whiskey distiller. Or a brewer. Or a fish nerd... no wait, got that one.

If we find a creature comfort we love - well, we are creatures, after all.

I grew up in the Andes of Colombia. Coffee is a way of life. But that was more than six decades ago. I don’t really know how things are there now, at least in real families, but then It was the beginning and center of breakfast for my family, as cafe con leche for everybody, from the youngest to oldest. During the say, black coffee with sugar (tinto). Now I hate cafe con leche and any coffee that includes milk or ‘flavors’. I drink a lot of coffee but only black with sugar. I don’t do coffee shops, except when traveling, but if by land, I will have a thermos full from home or base control. At home we use a drip maker and blend two thirds black coffee expresso style, with one third decaf. Drink through the day. At work I use a percolator. With meals I drink iced tea with orange juice, or coffee. I don’t buy fancy coffees but make what we consider excellent coffee every single day, and don’t see that changing anytime soon.

My first cup of the morning is purely medicinal. I can’t function without it. I’m only a beverage snob about wine. I have been making my own wine for many years. Wand Family Cellars. I doubt you heard of it. Haha. I made my last 5 gallons recently. I doubt I will make more since the fish hobby has taken up so much of my time.

I don't consider myself as a coffee snob, I still like to have different ones on hand to make mixes. And I never reject a good instant one either. I still try to always find something that has a reasonable price / value. But I do not mind paying more time to time for a real top shelf one.

It's part of a good morning ritual :)

After my first medicinal morning cup I can pay attention to quality. I prefer the cup produced by a French press.

I hardly drink coffee for when I used it, my heart is running like crazy. But if I have to choose a coffee I do prefer. it will be a latte macchiato. When I still used to live in Canada, I drank that coffee.

LOL! We have totally left out the best coffee in the world! Beans don't matter and neither does fresh ground or instant. Best coffee ever is any that is served mixed with Irish Cream!!!!!

Although I really don't use Bailey's as it is just too expensive I LOVE the stuff. At not much over half the cost of Bailey's I use Carolan's Irish Cream. Even a little less cost than Carolan's is Emmet's Irish Cream. Both, in my opinion, are actually better with coffee than Bailey's. Need to grab a small bottle of whatever Irish Cream. It is sort of a tradition with me to have coffee with Irish Cream on New Year's Day morning. Forget Mimosas (champagne or Spumante with orange juice) that may be more common on New Year's morning involved in a brunch I don't care. Give me my coffee and Irish Cream!
